Record one episode/day - 3 air/day

H folks,

When I setup BTV3 to record "The Screen Savers" on TechTV, I select the 10:00am show and select record all episodes. Only problem is "The Screen Savers" airs 3 times a day so BTV assumes I want to record it 3 times per day. How do I tell it to record only the 10:00am show every day?

Are they all the same episode? If so, it will only record the first. If not, why wouldn't you want the later episodes?

I guess the answer to your question is "you can't", other than to select each each recording each day as a single recording and schedule it, or to click on the 2nd and 3rd recordings in the "upcoming recordings" screen and select "do not record"

if the episodes later in the day are a re-airing then it should not record them if they dont have original airdates or the airdate information is messed up then it will re-record them to get around this you would have to use a manual recording setup from the webadmin recording screen (kinda like a vcr recording) the downside is you wont get any dynamic .net information from the recording.

Unfortunately, it is pretty common for shows in the program guide to have bad original airdates (I've come across two so far), so it would be a nice feature for SnapStream to add; All episodes, limit to once a day. Of course, this would err on the side of missing some episodes.

This is another example of the need for a "Record in this timeslot" option when selecting recording jobs. I have to go through this problem with The Daily Show constantly. The show doesn't have any data and every episode has an original airdate of the first-aired episode, making BTV think they're all repeats. I can either say record all episodes and have it record the 3-4 times the episode is repeated in a day, or record new and just go in and select the 11 PM timeslot manually in the upcoming episodes.

It's a real pain. I'm crossing my fingers that a release in the near future will have this option. It would save me a whole lot of trouble.

I fully agree with moot, we need a "Record in this timeslot" feature. I only want to record the program at 10:00am regardless of whether it's a new one or not. I can do this with a VCR - why shouldn't I be able to do it with BTV?

I am having a related problem.

If I hover over almost any Fox News evening program, BTV reports that they are all repeats. All of these shows are new daily and each repeats 1 to 2 times each evening.

So if I say Record all new episodes, I get nothing (ever).

If I say Record all shows, I waste 17+ GB per night, must deal with a polluted program list / media folder and must manually reclaim this space fast.

I am therefore forced to manually tag each show I want to record, week after week.

I am hoping a future version of BTV will let me schedule a recording for any time slot and keep that schedule on a daily/weekly basis. This would solve these types of issues.

Although I like the idea of scheduled recordings, it would also be useful if I could mark a program "Do not record in this timeslot". I could then mark The O'Reilly Factor at 5PM PST to Record all episodes (I must do this because the guide says it is a repeat, which it is not), then mark it at 8PM and 1AM as Do not record in this timeslot. Then I would get just a single show recorded daily at 5PM.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Well you can, do a manual recording which would be the same as a VCR. You can set it to record only that time slot every day.

or set it to only keep 1 episode. It'll still waste time recording it again, but it will only have 1 copy.

Much appreciated Terminal. I didn't know you could manually schedule recording of a specific timeslot via the web interface. They should add that into the Windowed interface as well.

Yea that part of their development seemed a bit hap hazard to me. There are very useful tools in both interfaces, so you can't just use one or the other. You have to constantly jump back and forth between the two. 3.4 Improved this considerably, but they still have a ways to go.

It was my understanding, though, that scheduling a recording this way would not allow the video to pick up the show info as it would if it was scheduled via "Record all" or "Record New". If this has since changed, though, then it is exactly what I'm looking for.

No this does not pick up the show info. It is like a VCR recording. It records for X number of minutes on channel Y. Nothing More.

I agree with carrion. It is a waste of resources and ties up my machine if I record all episodes just to end up with one. I make DVDs and do other things while the machine is not recording and resent having to dodge useless recording.

Well you could also go and delete all the episodes you don't want recorded. In the FSUI go to your upcoming recordings and step through and tell it do not record this episode on the repeats. It only takes a minute. I do this on one show I record because it repeats 3 times a day, and the original airdates are not kept properly. I agree that it would be nice if BTV could be set to take care of this on it's own.
