Custom hardware encoder settings PVR250

Can someone explain the differences between the different MPEG2 hardware encoder "stream types" when creating custom quality settings? For example, what are the differences between

- Program Stream;
- DVD Stream;
- SVCD Stream?

If you are using the video files for editing, or use on a computer, or conversion to other formats use program stream

if you are going to use them for dvd authoring (dvd-video) then use dvd stream

if you are going to use them for svcd authoring (svcd-mpeg2 video cd's) then use svcd stream

the differences is in the internal packing of the video files, it is not noticiable to the player but can affect how the files are interpreted by the software used to convert/author into another format.
