Playing MPEGS on another PC

Hi, I want to be able to play the mpeg files produced by BYTV on another PC. I have several programs available.
Windows media won't play.
Nero Showtime won't play.
Real ONE won't play.
Cyberlink PowerDVD WILL play.
Any idea how I can make the MPEGS more compatible?

Thanks

Mick

To play video files on a system without btv installed you will need to have some type of mpeg software installed, this can be a video editing program, a software dvd program (powerdvd will work for playing back in media player but you have to turn video accelration off in pdvd for third party programs to be able to use the decoder)

Basically windows does not come with an mpeg2 decoder and you have to install one to play the files.

Thats the point I was trying to make. I do have decoders (Real One, Nero and nDVD) NONE of these will play the mpegs. However PowerDVD will!

Attached is the error from nDVD. Most other programs say something about ClassFactory...

does this only occur on this particular machine?

if so then there is something on the system with regards to the mpeg2 decoders/splitters that are on the system. If you are getting the same errors on other machines then there is likely some common program between them that is damaging the direct show filters. powerdvd will play the file back because it doesnt use direct show to handle the playback, it just sets its internal decoders to handle it. nvdvd, real, nero, and wmp all use direct show to handle the playback of mpeg files. so if any part of direct show is damaged or the filters being used for playback dont work with one another it will cause wierd errors like this.

to see what decoders are being chosen you can download the following:
www.snapstream.com/download/debug.zip

then run graphedit, then take the mpeg file and drop it on the window it should build a graph to attempt to decode the file, this graph will contain the list of filters being used to decode the file, if you get an error saying no combination of filters then there is no set of mpeg decoders on the system that is saying it can decode mpeg2 or direct show is horribly damaged.

Hi. I ran the utility on two separate machines and get the same error. I have attached the error message. It seems that I need something on my system to decode these files

My guess is that you:
- Have no mpeg2 decoders on the systems
- The mpeg2 decoders will not allow other programs to use them
- The mpeg2 decoders are damaged
- Direct show is damaged and you should reinstall dx9.0b
- Some other decoder/plugin on the system is interfearing with the graph load and is causing the class factory to destroy the graph

You can try installing the trial version of BTV on those machines and see if it corrects the mpeg decoders on the system but my guess is there is some other decoder on there that is messing it up or directshow is damaged.

looking at the title of the movie you're trying to play, maybe you need to check the "Porn Settings" dialog to 'on' with the target machine?
