screen saver for 3.4

Does the screen saver work when viewing is paused. This is when it would be most useful to me. I pause expecting to be back in a minute and it somehow turns into an hour.

Oh, good, that becomes the feature that will get me to do the upgrade.

Thanks

Can the screensaver be changed? I don't see how the current dimming effect prevents screen burn-in.

The screensaver is an image that is placed over the FSGUI. It is located in the FSmedia folder within the the program's directory. If you open the screen_saver.png in a image edtor you will see it is just a black image. However, because the image is PNG the graphic artist is able to set a opacity setting that allows it to be slightly translucent. You could modify this opacity to be 100% so that the screen goes black. But SnapStream had a good idea to make it slightly visiable so that you know the screen is still on. As for how it prevents screen burn-in. Screen burn-in is caused by a picture not changing for a while, Menu screens, but by dimming the picture to almost black this problem is prevented. Some Plasma TVs actually have this same screensaver built in. Take note that it is still possible for a picture to be burned in no matter what you do. The only 100% solution is to turn it off. Also this problem only happens on Plasma not LCDs.

Hope this answers your questions.

Umm, can't old fashioned CRTs (and new CRT projection systems) burn in too?

I have seen a CRT based computer monitor with a burned in image.

I know old CRT had this problem but never a newer CRT.

I just remembered, there is a feature called "image shift" on my new panasonic crt projection TV. It slowly moves the image around to prevent burn in. (I have it enabled but never notice the movement in normal viewing, but if you look for it you can see it.)

I assume that by adding this feature, they have acknowledged that the problem is real.
