Video Input section for WMV qualities?

One thing I don't understand about transcoding to WMV is the "Video Input" section. Why do I need to specify the dimensions and fps for the source material? What if I don't know the values and end up specifying wrong information?

I converted a 720x480 MPEG file to WMV and just now noticed the Video Input setting. I guess it used the default values of 640x480 and 60fps.

I'm wondering if I messed the proportions; hard to tell to my eye--especially since I had it erase the source file.

it has been like that since version 2 i belive.

i think the input was designed to allow the wmv capture engine to capture on lower end systems but produce video that is scaled to higher res for streaming or something.

So is it advantageous (or even essential) to select the appropriate Input values?

But what if you don't know the source's FPS and resolution? How do you know what to specify for the Input values?

I've looked around and can't find this setting. Can you point me in the right menu so I can find this?

Thanks,
