hdhr - can we have a channel.map per hdhr tuner

i believe we can set up, if we wanted to, a separate custom lineup for each hdhr.

do these have to share a common channel.map or can there be a channel.map for each hdhr unit?

if the latter, we would have a partial work around for the limit of 68 channels

Re: hdhr - can we have a channel.map per hdhr tuner

If you have a remap line of say:
11-1 2 qam256:507000000 1

You can specify the device/tuner by adding it to the beginning of the line:

XXXXXXXX-0 11-1 2 qam256:507000000 1

XXXXXXXX would be the Device ID. the above example tells the driver that that channel is only available on tuner 0. You can then set tuner 1's channel 2 to a separate channel.

XXXXXXXX-0 11-1 2 qam256:507000000 1
XXXXXXXX-1 41-1 2 qam256:561000000 3

Of course, you will have to make your lineups accordingly.

The remap utility does not yet have the ability to do this but it will be in the next version.

that is fabulous news! so, we only need one channel.map file but can set it up with more than 68 channels.

then, we set up more than one custom lineup, and associate each custom lineup with whatever tuners we want to assign to it

then, we have a maximum of 68xN channels possible, where N is the number of unique custom channel lineups

thank you so much for all your work on the channel.map stuff

looking forward to that next version of channel mapper!

by the way, something folks might also want to consider is to have a few channels assigned for dynamic re-use.
for example, define 'TBD channel 1', assign it to some physical/major/minor for now.
later, when (for example), your cable company has a special preview of something and a channel is temporarily available,
you can edit 'TBD channel 1' in the channel.map file to this preview channel, and have it available for recording.
creative folks may think of other ways to use these non-always-available' channels in this way
