HDHomeRun QAM + BeyondTV Instructions

First, you will need to be using Beyond TV 4.6.1 RC1. You can get it here:
http://beta.snapstream.com

You'll need to be using the HDHomeRun BDA drivers from here:
http://www.silicondust.com/wiki/downloads

WARNING!!!!!! When installing VLC through the Home Run Driver Package, choose "MINIMAL' unless you really want your file associations jacked.

Ok, now that you're that far, its time for a bit of fun. You need to create an HDHomeRun QAM remap file. Follow Steps 2 and 3 of this post: http://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2503

Making the remap file can be made easier with this utility: http://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2519

The short version of what you're doing is you're mapping a QAM program to a virtual ATSC channel. For example, in my testing I mapped QAM 103-6 (ESPNHD here in Houston) to 89-1.

Once you have created your remap file, you need to go here:
http://www.snapstream.net/configure/...eupWizard.aspx

This page will allow you to import specific channels from a lineup and then edit their actual channel details.

So let's say you remapped things like this:

CBS: 10-1 5
ABC: 11-1 6
NBC: 12-1 7
FOX: 13-1 8
CW: 14-1 9
TNTHD: 15-1 10
ESPNHD: 16-1 11

You would use the CustomLineupWizard, select "Import Lineup", find your digital cable lineup, and import CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, CW, TNTHD, and ESPNHD from that lineup. Now you would edit the blanks appropriately. For this example, CBS's physical channel is 5, its major channel is 10, and its minor channel is 1. ABC's physical channel is 6, its major channel is 11, and its minor channel is 1.

Make sure your custom lineup is flagged as lineup type "Digital" and save that lineup.

Back in Beyond TV you'll want to do a guide update so it pulls down your new lineup. Once the update is done, exit Beyond TV and launch the Setup Wizard. Go through and add a new video source, select Antenna (Digital), and then select your new custom lineup. Run through and setup the second HDHomeRun tuner in the same fashion.

You are now done. Enjoy. You should have access to your QAM channels complete with guide data.

A Sample of the remap file:

Code:
; Channel: 79
; Frequency: 555000000
; Modulation: qam256
; Program: 1
; Description: CBS

5-1 5 qam256:555000000 1

; Channel: 79
; Frequency: 555000000
; Modulation: qam256
; Program: 11
; Description: PBS

6-1 6 qam256:555000000 11

; Channel: 92
; Frequency: 633000000
; Modulation: qam256
; Program: 1
; Description: CW

4-1 4 qam256:633000000 1

N00b-like question:

I see two rf inputs on this in the picture. Is it a dual-tuner QAM device (i.e. can I record two QAM sations at once with one HDHomerun)? What is the differencfe between this and a PCI QAM card? Just trying to see it's advantage. Thanks!

Yup, dual tuner, networked OTA or QAM device. The difference is that this device has drivers that will work natively with Beyond TV, meaning full recording and LiveTV integration with QAM (or OTA, but the big deal is QAM).

Any of the big box stores selling this yet? Where's the best place on the web to find one?

Works really well already. I'd get one (or 2 or 3) right now!
