Beyond TV 4 Folder Management

Any plans to change the foldermangement in Beyond TV 4. I mean that if one drive gets full then it will still record to another hfolder that has the aviable space. The reayson i bring this up becasue with HD coming into the picture, HDD space will come more scarse, and will be consumed a lot quicker. I hope that they do this, becasue i am tired of having to manage my recordings to my different drive. And if they did it then i would have to do anyhitng evtra with configuring RAID. I dont want ot have to do that. It seems simple enough.

Please let me know.

Re: Beyond TV 4 Folder Management

I have asked for this as well but haven't gotten any feedback about what they think of the idea.

What I've done to work around this issue is to have a folder labelled "- NEW RECORDINGS" on one drive (smaller system drive) and then created a folder for each tv show on my larger drive. I then have BTV showsqeeze the show into it's designated folder (this can be found under "Setup Recordings").

I'm not sure how you organize your recordings but you might want to rethink it or program your own BTV plugin instead of waiting for SS to revamp the folder system.

I personally would love to see BTV allow the user to create a custom storage tree in BTV instead of having to recurse subdirectories. I'd also like to see an easy way to add/edit/delete show information. If SS doesn't do this in BTV 4, I'm going to see if I can program a plugin for this.

Re: Beyond TV 4 Folder Management

Im not looking for a work around. It would make everyhting so much simpleir if BeyondTV already did it. All im looking for is less set up for my recordings to HDD space. and if you can make a plugin i would love you so much.

Re: Beyond TV 4 Folder Management

Yeah it seems like a no brainer. I have been wanting this one myself.

Re: Beyond TV 4 Folder Management

Install 2nd drive, in Windows XP, span the 2nd drive onto the 1st. Voila, bigger hard drive.

Re: Beyond TV 4 Folder Management

Voila 2x the chance of complete failure and 2x the data loss.

No Thanks!

I think this ehancement and a few other annoyances all fit into a larger umbrella of "More granular control of recording options" and a fruther refinment of the GUI now that BTV supports so many more possible options than in the past.

Re: Beyond TV 4 Folder Management

You will have twice the chance of data loss when you install twice as many drives, regardless of spanning or not. You can lose useful data on first drive, useful data on second drive independently, or useful data on both. Nontheless, its irrelevant for this code base. Its the way that it is. Microsoft Word doesn't auto-save to another drive if one is full, why should BTV? It's an easy answer, and built into the OS for now.

Yes but in the case of spanning, you loose all of you data for ANY failure.

- Drive 1 dies = loss of all data on both drives
- Drive 2 dies = loss of all data on both drives
- Drive 1+2 dies = loss of all data on both drives

As far as probabilites are concerned, you are now MULTIPLYING the 2 failure rates of the individual drives to come up with your new failure rate for the spanned drive.

Would you care to back that up with some arguments?

By that logic, then should we assume because Word has word processor feature, that BTV should as well? I don't think so. They are two completly different applications with different target audiences.
