no surround and closed caption problem
Setup
Asus m2r32-mvp Athlon 5200+ AM2 2gb ddr2 Sapphire 2900xt My problem is, in only beyond media I cannot get surround sound. I have a 5.1 setup and it will not pass the dts/dolby digital through. All it does is do stereo via pcm. Now when I play my hd-dvd's and blu-ray through power dvd it will play it perfectly. It was also plays it perfectly in beyond tv for OTA HD that has surround. My second problem is it plays closed captions on EVERY dvd I have that I play through beyond media's dvd library plugin. (I do not put any dvd's into the comp just to play them, they are all ripped to a storage server). Thirdly, I am thinking this is a resolution issue on the tv, i have it set to 1024x768 and it will not let me adjust the aspect ratio. They all stay the same except usually letterbox makes it smaller. I am thinking I have to try and get it to run at 720x480. I have the video via component to a yamaha receiver. And the sound via coaxial to the receiver. I have had this working before through a tos link cable and an old motherboard. The reason i needed to upgrade is because I could not play high def dvd's with my old setup. Any clue on the surround sound, closed captions, and aspect ratio problem? |

Re: no surround and closed caption problem
I stopped using BM because my soundcard software would fight with it. Mine would reset back to 2-channel instead of 5.1
Having more than one version of the Cyberlink codec may be a problem. I bought PowerDVD 7 and it works better. You can make BM use PowerDVD as the audio decoder but it is really not worth the effort. Change the xml code in Firefly and PowerDVD will be intergrated via the remote. Unless there is some reason to run the DVD thru BM getting the right software to the the job seems to be the best thing.

Re: no surround and closed caption problem
I have powerdvd 7. How would I go about making everything play through it? Including the audio, and what are the arguments to play a dvd?
Do you have instructions for the firefly remote so I can use it in powerdvd easily? |

Well, I have seen several people with the closed caption problem and I can't say about the surround. I did find the cause of the CC/Subtitle issue.. BM comes with a lesser version of PowerDVD. I pesonally had also installed a newer version of the Intervideo product.. What I learned is the EVEN though I had selected the None for the video decoder, it was looking at the settings for the other product. In my case, I had no preference for which one it used.. but what fixed it was shutting down BM, opening the other version in the intervideo folder and opening the settings screen.. Captions subtitles was set to "Normal" I changed it to transparent. That fixed it. I will say, CC no longer work from the info menu option while watching a video.. I plan to investigate it more later but at the annoyance is gone.. I don't know if it will help but it's what I found.. good luck
