Question BM basic + BTV Link... looking for options

Hello, all.

I've got my machine that's got Beyond Media Basic on it that I use mainly for watching recorded shows. I just picked up BTV Link so that I can watch shows on another TV via an s-video card.

My question is... is there a way to get the music from the main machine to stream to the BTV Link? Since it's called Beyond Media Basic I'm assuming there's a Beyond Media more-than-Basic, but would that help get the music from the main machine to the BTV Link machine? I don't see anything on the BTV Link side that appears to allow for this.

If this isn't something that will work via BeyondTV is there another way that I can get the music to the BTV Link machine? I'm not planning on having a computer monitor on the other machine; just a TV and the Firefly remote. This means driving around the selection with nothing but the remote control rather than a keyboard/mouse sort of thing.

Thanks,
Greg

You have BMB installed already... and you jsut got BTVlink.... But your trying to stream your audio to BTVL? Why not just continue using BMB for your audio files and use BTVL for its intended purpose?

Re: BM basic + BTV Link... looking for options

I've got the BeyondTV computer in the basement and the BTV Link machine upstairs, and it doesn't appear that the BTV Link software deals with anything but recorded shows. Not hard to believe since that's the way it's portrayed but I was hoping that something like this has already been done before I go cobble something else together

Ideally I'd like to have something like an audio jukebox that I could drive around with just the Firefly Mini remote in the same way I can get at the shows hat have been recorded by the BeyondTV box. I can always get out the keyboard/mouse that will be stashed back behind the BTV Link machine, but that doesn't seem like an elegant solution. If I can do it all from one interface that'd be less jumping around from program to program...

AFAIK, Beyond TV Link is designed to work with Beyond TV, not Beyond Media. Beyond TV is a PVR-like server, not a media server per se.

Yeah, that's what I'd assumed was the case but I guess in this holiday season I was hoping Santa would have some good news for me

So what I really need to do is find a music server that can also run on the BeyondTV machine along side the PVR server and kludge myself a media server...

Update: Okay, it looks like I've got something that'll kinda/sorta do what I want. There's a little goodie from http://www.vibestreamer.com that will stream music and use a web browser as a client. If I bump up the size of the letters in the browser and get a wireless mouse I'm thinking that should work for streaming music to the BTV Link machine. Not as elegant as doing everything through the BeyondTV-like interface but that's the way it's gotta be...

Thanks for the reply,
Greg

Re: BM basic + BTV Link... looking for options

Ok, so what are the options (besides Beyond Media) that will work over BTV link?

I have a similar situation with my HTPC in the basement and other PCs that can use BTV Link. However, I want to be able to access both my shows and my movies.

I can configure BM to see my movies on a networked drive but last time I tried, it didn't play well with BTVLink.

Any other apps that do? MediaPortal?

It seems silly that BM doesn't integrate right in with BTVLink.

Re: BM basic + BTV Link... looking for options

As for the Music question.... Link can playback Mp3 files.

Simply add the audio folder as a video folder in BTV -- and Presto.

Instant access to audio anywhere.

it's not Perfect -- but it Is an option.

Re: BM basic + BTV Link... looking for options

Just to make sure I'm clear on your setup:

You have BTV installed on a PC and then you have Mediaportal installed on another PC and it's able to browse your TV shows and play them?

The last time I tried BM, I had to leave BM to get BTV Link running to watch shows.

I'll have to look up BM basic. I'm not sure what that is.
