Re: Tivo

Hi Gang

Sorry I have not gotten back to you, the automatic notification thing must not be working right, I just happen to take a peek at the forum late last night and seen the new posts.

Some great material there, comments like this make the understanding a lot better. These last few posts have really re fired my interest in BTV. Ok you all have one me over, I am going to do what I need to get it up and running. Being I have the BTV 4 and all already.

By reading between the lines and different things it looks like that Hauppauge 250 is the one a lot of you use. So I will get going on getting that now. I am assuming it will be ok with what you all are talking about that is coming down the pike with BTV.

Well thanks again and don't stop now, some great posts.

Take care...........Gunny

I don't know how you do that with rabbit ears, I have not seen a set of those in I don't know how many years. I did not know they were even still selling them. But that is great no big investment there. Ha

But that is great glad you are having success there. Seems simple enough.

I appreciate your info, thanks.........Gunny

Re: Tivo

Hi jkirk and jnaranjo

Thanks a bunch for all the good info. Now you are really getting into it. great posts.

I went to a large electronics place here locally called Fry's, you guys in the bay area here will know the name. And I asked the clerk after not being able to find them, where the TV tuner cards were, and she took me to a glass case and pointed to a single tuner card, and said there it is. I said is this all you have, and she said yes. So not believing her, I asked another clerk and he showed me the same thing. I could not believe that a large place like this would only have one TV tuner card. I made sure they understood me and what I was looking for. That is hard to believe. Needless to say I am going to try another place today called Computer Central, and see what they have. It seems the best place so far for selection and price is Ebay

Thanks again and take care.............Gunny

Re: Tivo

Well I have been spending the last couple of hours searching for a good new/used computer case, with a decent size power supply and what ever else that might come with one. You all think it is a good idea to have a separate computer for all this.

I have some parts, but I will need a Mother board, cpu, fans, etc. I will go by what is recommended, and then a little extra. I would sooner have a little overkill, then come up short and wish I would have done differently.

jkirk I guess when you say be sure it is compatible, you are meaning that it will work with the components I install in the computer. Will do.

Thanks..........Gunny

Re: Tivo

by compatible i mean this
http://www.snapstream.com/products/beyondtv/sysreq.asp
tho some cards are better than others

btw unless you are building a high power setup avoid software encoding(non-hardware) cards.

Re: Tivo

Hi Gang

I was going through my stuff here, and I have a good Sony Sat-B2. and a Sony B55. Of these two, what is the opinom of which one to use.? The B55 is brand new never been used, and the B2 is a good one and has been used very little. And it is my understanding that you do not need the card, in order to set up BTV.

Thanks and take care...........Gunny

Re: Tivo

I would use the B55...The B2 receiver tunes way too slow in my opinion but it would work. Keep in mind, Sony's B2 uses an RS-232 for the serial tuning on the back of the box over the mini handset jack like on the newer receivers.

Re: Tivo

Hi darren e

Thanks for the come back. I was hoping some one would let me know on this. Now I can really get started, I have 2 important pieces, the B55 and the beyondtv 4.

What about the card issue. I don't see where it would be needed really so this might just be another dumb question.

Thanks and take care..........Gunny
