Web Video plugin

I don't know if you've seen the BM interface I did for CBS News but I think I figured out how to set up a BM interface for CBS innertube as well. In fact, I'm being quite ambitious and want to do more of these. The question I have is should I do 1 more generic plugin or a separate plugin for each one.

I think multiple plugins could become a pain on the main screen if there get to be too many of them (I did say I'm being ambitious) but then you may not want your system bothering with bouncing of multiple web sites to maintain a list of available content.

I think it would be nice to have news video from multiple sources (abc, reuters, cnn) all listed in one spot. I'm think of adding a keyword search function.

Which would you guys prefer?

Re: Web Video plugin

Either would work for me, but my preference would be an all-in-one plugin.

By the way, thanks for your work on Beyond Media Plugins!

Re: Web Video plugin

9 votes looks like a consensus to me. I'm basically done but I'm cleaning up the interface so you can select videos by type (news, shows) or by Source (CBS News, CBS Innertube). I should have the first version available in a couple days. Does anyone have a preference for the next video source to go after? Looks like Fox is offering shows on Myspace. Any suggestions on how you think the interface would work better wouldn't hurt my feelings.

Fox shows would be nice. How about youtube, google video or some of those? Yahoo Videos would be really nice. The possibilities are endless.

I like the interface fine as it is now. I'll have to tinker with it and see if I can come up with any ideas to improve.

Thanks,
Brent

Re: Web Video plugin

How about the CNN feeds or even the audio feeds from NPR? There is a MCE plugin for NPR already that someone got to work (sort of) with spotlight, but it was not 100% compatable.

I'm really glad to see any new plugin development for BM.

What would really be slick (here in Houston) is a plugin that would show the Transtar webview of traffic on the freeway. Not really keeping with the video theme here, but it would allow me to check the weather and the traffic before heading out.

There's lots of great content on the web. Adding the 10 ft interface makes it so much nicer.

Re: Web Video plugin

OK. I posted the plugin which provides CBS News and CBS Innertube. Please delete the CBS News plugin directory before you add it - no sense in mining CBS News twice for content every 30 minutes.

I didn't realize how much was out there til my plugin pulled it all out so sorry for the excess. I figured it was best to just get everything rather than me pick and choose for you.

Also, the jpgs for Innertube were just thumbnails so they don't look the best but it's what I had to work with.

I like cfaslave's idea of going after yahoo music videos next. I think the only way to get youtube and google to be worthwhile is to add a search function at some point so I'll go for the easier targets at the moment. I've haven't had this much fun hacking since my childhood fascination with copy-protection.

CNN and Fox will be my next targets I think.

Re: Web Video plugin

I'm pretty excited about this plugin. My wife has tried it out and really likes it. My teenage daughter is REALLY excited about the possiblity of the yahoo videos at some point. We used to have a plugin like that on Meedio which she used a lot. For those of you who haven't tried this plugin out yet, give it a try when the new web video plugin is posted - it has a bunch of potential.
