Opera browser available free without ads

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09..._goes_ad-free/

Opera is the best browser I can find for htpc's mainly because it allows you to resize the entire view (text and pictures). You can open in kiosk view (although depending on your remote you may have trouble shutting it down) or use the mouse to switch fullscreen, and I have no trouble assigning navigation keys to my girder.

For this I'll give up on simplebrowser.

I never used Opera, but does it allow you to spoof browser type? For instance, a site requires microsoft 6.0 browser, you can have opera say it is a 6.0 brower.

Re: Opera browser available free without ads

Nice. I've always wanted to give it a try but hated the ads on the free version before. I've been using mozilla and firfox and like the text size change with <ctrl>+ or - but pictures don't change.

Do you know the short cut keys to change the text/picture in opera?

Also, do you use the mail client in opera? I've used Mozilla (thunder bird?) It's good but has it corks. They are still working on refining it, i guess.

Re: Opera browser available free without ads

SHortcut to zoom in or out 10% is + and - keys, so the volume control on your remote will do nicely. Under preferences you can change any shortcut you want, just make sure you don't repeat any.

Ok, one hassle I've unearthed is the issue with an on screen keyboard. THe windows one will respond to mouse movements, or the annoying step key under joystick. I am trying to find a simple on screen keyboard that functions off the arrow keys and enter, anyone got an idea?

Re: Opera browser available free without ads

I tried exporting from thunderbird (email) to opera email.
Didn't import correctly. I had to manually config. My setting, contacts, and email was not imported.
I couldn't get gmail working on it. I'll try again tomorrow but don't like it so far. I still like thunderbird.

I haven't tried the browswer yet jut the email. I'll check out and play with the browser tomorrow.
