Sounds great! The biggest question for a trial user like me is, should I buy BTV now should I wait for Beyond Media?

I don't think there's any reason to wait for Beyond Media to buy Beyond TV (obviously, I'd say that, right? ).

They are two separate products and any update we might make to Beyond TV to accomodate anything new introduced Beyond Media will be available as a free upgrade to Beyond TV.

Does that also mean that Firefly will not be packaged in some kit with Beyond TV? I'ld like to get both at once with a discount.

Remote support

Now that Girder is shareware, it's not really my favorite. I would buy a PC based remote, but I have a great Pronto working with an Evation IRman. Can we see support for a more "open" IR system? Or, will Firefly support custom remotes, and the infinate buttons I can make with my Pronto.

there may be bundles offered, but we can't say for sure right now -- that'll be a marketing decision that's made month to month once the products are available.

What will it be like?

The video player will feature a file browser similar to the one you see in the screenshots for the photos module. The actual player will be similar in its look and feel to the Beyond TV video player. It will handle playback of all the formats that Beyond TV supports right now (which is pretty much anything that Windows Player supports for playback on your particular box).
Will the Video Player support SmartChapters (generated by BTV) for commercial/chapter skipping in Beyond Media?

BTW, why aren't you using the actual player code in BTV for use in Beyond Media? It would seem this would be better since there is only one code base to support and any improvements made to this code get to improve two different products.

Not sure if this has been asked, not read every thread:
Will this be an all-in product (like Win MCE) ?

...or...

Will this be a product that integrates otrher products (like myHTPC) ?

Remotes?

I bought the package that includes the PVR-250, will Beyond Media work with the Hauppage remote, or will I have to tweak everything with Girder?

Re: Remotes?

Good question... Beyond Media won't be designed specific to one remote control though naturally it will work really well with SnapStream's Firefly.

So you can expect for Beyond Media to work with the Hauppauge remote, the ATi Remote Wonder, and the Streamzap (the remote controls that Beyond TV works with today).

no matter what I bet we can get the hauppauge remote to work with BM. If SS doesn't do it, one of us can just edit the INI file to make it work, shouldn't be any problem.

Actually, it's not really in the above post.

It says it will support a wide variety of music formats, but what I am asking is if it will support a wide variety of music players.

It says it will support a wide variety of DVD codecs, but what I am asking is if it sill suport a wide variety of DVD players.

I do read that if I am handy with C# and .NET I can create my own plugins, but I am neither. However I might prefer TheaterTek over the BM DVD player, so I am trying to understand if it's more like MCE or more like myHTPC.

I would be SHOCKED if they don't allow for command line commands to be executed.

Yes, you will be able to launch something like Theatertek (or any 3rd party application for that matter) from the Beyond Media interface.

so, what we're seeing here is a blatant ripoff of the myHTPC basics?

i'm all for competition, but not when it just means ripping off someone else's idea
