I got SnapStream working with a new Hauppage WinTV GO card. I could not get it working correctly with my Voodoo3 3500 TV due to problems listed in the forum.

I have both a Tivo and a ReplayTV so I have some perspective.

Some comments:

1. I got it mostly for my iPaq, and the quality in high PocketPC mode is outstanding.

2. I REALLY dont like that I cant watch programs while they are being recorded - when I start the WinTV app it says card in use. Big disadvantage.

3. Also, I havent figured out how to record without hearing the sound on my computer speakers. If I mute 'line in' the recording has no sound.

4. Lack of EPG stands out as something I didnt expect, one of a PVR's major usability features is the EPG! I understand the cost/problems getting listings from those litigous bastards that own the patent, though http://discuss.snapstream.com/ubb/wink.gif

5. I wish it had a standalone capture program with lots of settings.

6. Needs custom PC/PocketPC player software. Like Tivo, Snapstream needs to remember where you left off watching a show, skip ahead 30 seconds during commercials, manage shows, etc.

7. I tried playing games while the system is recording - it still works, and doesnt affect the game, but the clips have a lesser quality in frame rate. This is the major problem because the shows I want to watch are usually on when I want to play games (thats why I want to record them)

8. I wish HTML interface (which was VERY forward-thinking) is augmented with a native app that can view shows while being recorded, etc.

In general, I think Snapstream is way ahead of its time, especially because of the PocketPC functionality. I plan on buying a larger CompactFlash card so I can fit 2 hours of programming onto my PocketPC - SOOO COOL!

I hope Media Format 8 brings even better resolution and/or comperession!

The trick is this:
1) Bring up your volume settings by doubleclicking the volume control icon in the system tray.
2)Mute the "Line-In" on the windows that comes up.
3) Click on "Options" and then "Properties"
4) Click on "Recording" in the "adjust Volume for" group box
5) Click on OK
6) Insure that "Line-In" is *not* muted here. (By default, I believe it is).

This should all the recording to get the sound while you need not hear it. I haven't tried, but if you want to watch TV via your card, I think you will have to undo these options, or at least, unmute the "Line-In" on the "Playback" setting.

I hope this helps!
