In Windows XP I exported the BTV settings and in Windows 7 I tried to import them but I got an error that it can't write the version information to the registry and nothing gets imported. Any ideas why?

I recently migrated from XP on one drive to Windows 7 on another drive. I found that backing up on XP using BTV's backup function and restoring on Windows 7 using BTV did not work for me. One problem was that the LogDir in the settings.xml was not set correctly. Another issue was that BTVTaskManagerService.exe kept crashing when I tried to update guide data.

What worked for me:
- Make a copy of the XP BTV folder in Windows Explorer.
- Install BTV from scrach in Windows 7.
- Make a backup copy of C:\ProgramData\SnapStream\Beyond TV in case you need to revert to the original settings.
- Copy the following files from the old XP BTV folder to C:\ProgramData\SnapStream\Beyond TV:

baseLineups.xml
BlockedRecordings.xml
devices.xml
ForcedRecordings.xml
Jobs.xml
RecentRecordings.xml
userLineups.xml

- Change settings in Web admin to set up recording folders, recording management, etc.

The bulk of the settings, including scheduled recordings and QAM mappings are restored by the 7 files listed above.

I submitted a ticket to SS but this seems like it would work. Maybe SS needs to make a knowledge base page for this.

backup and restore feature only works on the same operating system and not across different ones.

How to backup your Beyond TV settings - SnapStream Knowledgebase (http://snapstream.helpserve.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1553) It's in bold at the bottom =)

Just take the following files from your backup, and drop them in
C:\ProgramData\SnapStream\Beyond TV

jobs.xml
recentrecordings.xml
forcedrecordings.xml
blockedrecordings.xml

You can import your jobs and history by doing this and everything else, we recommend for you to re-setup.

It also says not to use a backup on a different computer. I always assumed if I switched computers, I could use the backup to move my settings. Provided they have the same OS, in fact I am pretty sure I did that when I replaced my motherboard a while back. Basically a new computer.

If you restored to a different computer, your hardware is different so none of your tuners will be using the same guid's, different sound card, storage location and etc.

You are basically going to have to setup everything again, so no point of a restore. Just copy your jobs and history over and your good to go.

What are the risks if I also import the following?
-profiles.xml
-profilesNTSC.xml
-profilesPAL.xml
-QAMFrequencyMapping.xml
-Settings.xml

That is where the hard work seems to be required for my own (unexpected) system migration. I have quite a few custom video quality settings, so that is my primary interest.

Thanks,
Bryan

I'm about to upgrade my Win XP Pro 32bit to Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit onto the same hardware. I'm also using the firewire channel change driver. Just wanted to make sure that this is still working for anyone who has done this. I'd hate to have to remap QAMand so on.

Seemed to work fine for me, but I did a remap of the QAM channels anyway.
