Well, I think there's going to be a lot of new shows and my BTV server is going to be *very* busy...

Cavemen, Heroes, Bionic Woman, Reaper, Smallville, Supernatural, House, Bones... I think there's only 1 night my box will not be recording, if I remember my lineups correctly.

I typically record a bunch of the new shows and don't watch them until near the end of the season. This way I can eliminate any of those the TV networks drop - I hate it when they do that for series like Kidnapped, Invasion etc.

This is sort of shameless self-promotion, but I think you might find it useful also. I made a complete listing of the Fall 2007 TV premiers (http://brentevans.blogspot.com/2007/09/fall-2007-tv-season-premiers-ultimate.html) (returning as well as new shows) on my blog if anyone is interested. It's listed out on the blog and has a download for a PDF version also. There's a lot of junk on TV as you can see by that list, but lots of good stuff too.

Here's the new shows I'll be recording:
Big Bang Theory, Chuck, Journeyman, K-Ville, Cane, Reaper, New Amsterdam, Bionic Woman, Sarah Conner Chronicles (midseason replacement), The IT crowd (midseason replacement)

Of course there are the returning shows I'll be watching also such as Heroes, Shark, Ugly Betty (for the wife :)), Survivor China (I know...).

I'll also be watching the PBS special The War

One last thing. If you want to check out the new NBC shows before they broadcast to get an idea of which ones you want to record, Amazon Unbox will have the first premier, full episodes for free downloading beginning September 10th.

Actually Ugly Betty is surprisingly good.
I've got most of those but I'm really on pins and needles to see Friday Night Lights, Dr Steve-O, Supernatural, and Survivor. Oddly enough, I haven't heard when Lost is coming back.

I've already started moving all of the shows that we still haven't watched from last year from my recording directories to network shares to get prepped. Drive pooling will really help this season

I already have over 50 shows in my first run list, and I haven't added any new shows yet:tongue: I use the same method as cfaslave and record just about every new show, but don't start watching them til Xmas break (unless there is a lot of buzz on a specific show like Heros or Dexter last year). Others get left for the summer.

Caveman? Did they get Ringo Starr? How does Barbara Bach look these days? Atuk zug zug Lana! Wonder who will play Tanda.

Yeah, I should have mentioned I'm looking forward to Lost and even more so Jericho whenever they start back next Spring.

I watched the full season of Jericho as it was running the full first season reruns this Summer (last one tonight) and I LOVE it. I totally understand those fans sending the nuts to get the network execs to continue the series. VERY good show.

I have a list at home on my desktop waiting for them to be available to insert for recordings, I do searches every day so I can set them. You named a few more on that list!

I've seen pilots of Sara Conner Chronicles, Reaper, and Bionic Woman already and I can tell you Reaper and Bionic Woman I'll definitely record. The jury's still out on Sara Conner. I'd much rather see a Terminator series based on the events immediately after Judgement Day from the third movie. I was actually pleased to see Kevin Smith (Silent Bob!) directing Reaper, and it shows. It's a funny show, but I don't know how long it will last. It seems like a rehash of Brimstone.

GREAT idea. I think that would be a winner as long as it is a separate option.

ok, you have more weight around here (I'm not talking about lbs.). Can you create an improvement and who ever wants can VOTE for it??

Wonder if they can get it in before things start (2 weeks?).

Highly unlikely that I have any more clout then anyone else around here. I just talk a lot :)
Wonder if they can get it in before things start (2 weeks?). I doubt it, but its worth a shot. It would be a good way to get some positive publicity for SS too. I'll do it this afternoon and post back here with the link to vote.

If you're a beta member, vote for Auto-Season Premier Recordings here. (http://beta.snapstream.com:8080/browse/BB-975) If I butchered the concept let me know & I'll correct the request wording. Cheers,

Sorry, I think I threadjack'd. Back to the topic. I'm ready for HEROES. Want to check out BIONIC WOMAN, gotta finish LOST, don't know how PRISON BREAK going to be this time round. Waiting for JERECHO. What to check out the show (don't remember the NAME) of fraiser and the woman from who loves raymand.

A few others regarding TIME (don't remember the name but there's one which he lives a long time and another where he been to the future).

Always Sunny in Philadelphia, saw the webisode, looks hilarious this season (I have that dark kind of humor). I'm almost caught up on Heroes (up to episode 15, should be ready for the new season) already saw Torchwood, looking forward to How I met your Mother, the typical sitcoms (Earl, Office, Scrubs) Prison Break, not sure what that will do. Switched to Showtime so I can watch Weeds (disappointing this season so far, hope it gets better) and Californication (eh, better than Flash Gordon at least, John from Cincinatti finished HBO for me) Penn and Teller should be back soon with more BS too.

(Checking Brent's list of new shows, thanks btw)

Bionic Woman for sure, might get suckered into Nip/Tuck again, probably Bones and Rules of Engagement (would rather have the Showbiz Show) House of course, and the goofier stuff (Sara Silverman, Southpark, Family Guy et al)

The shows I'm really primed for come much later, Galactica, the Shield (both final seasons) Lost, 24, the Riches...

I definitely watch too much tv. Nice thing is I have a couple 4hr flights coming up, and just loaded up all 4 of my laptop batteries, that'll keep me charged for the flights and the annoying airport wait times. That and a new set of noise cancelling headphones and I'm set. To think, I used to read :(

New Premiers You can set up to record tonight (within the 14 day BTV guide listings):
Kitchen Nightmares
Nashville
K-Ville
Kid Nation
Back to You

I'll be recording K-Ville & Back to You. No guarantee I'll watch either, but I'll record them and see how it goes.

New Premiers You can set up to record tonight (within the 14 day BTV guide listings):Thanks for the reminder, and your online premiere guide -- I don't have to hunt for those dates now, and was worried I'd miss something. Also voted for the automatic premiere recording feature.

Thanks again.

I also voted for this. However, don't we already "sorta" get this with the "auto recordings" option? Oh wait .. I guess the auto-record feature only works IF people actually have the shows listed to record. I guess THIS new feature would just seek out all the "Premieres" as per the guide information.

I would like it further split into Season Premieres and new show premieres. I already have all my favorite shows from last year scheduled for new episodes. But I'd really like to "try" the NEW show premieres at least once to see if I might like them.

Generally I like this idea a lot !!

Yeah, I'd love to be able to enter a new recording merely "by name". I figure I'll give the new "Bionic Woman" series a look, but until it actually shows up on the guide, I have no way of setting up a recording for it (well, other than maybe direct XML hacking).

Or by using BTV-Negociator's (link in my signature) searches + auto-recording of search results... ;)

What would be a big help along these lines is something I brought up a couple times over the last couple years.

The guide information we see HAS (NEW) when a show is new. But that "NEW" is not part of the searchable guide information.

Way back I asked if we could have things like "(" and ")" to further enhance our searching.

If I searched for NEW, I'd get New York, Newhart etc. So some of the extra punctuation was added to the search. So then I thought, "Great, now I can search for '(NEW)' and get a nice list of everything coming up that IS new. I thought this would be a nice way to possibly find "new" shows that I didn't know were starting. But no .. That "(NEW)" you see in the show description doesn't seem to be part of the searchable data.

Monday 19th, Prison Break is listed as (NEW). If I could have searched for (NEW) I would have seen that was the first "new" Prison Break this season.

SnapStream, why can't we make that field part of the show description and searchable ??

And along those lines, some guide providers show "Season Premiere", "Show Premiere" and such for shows. I wonder if that information is available where SS gets it's guide data, and if so could it be included with the show description for searching?

Just image searching for "Season Premiere" and getting a nice listing for all the season premieres for the next couple weeks. THAT would really be a big plus for searching around this time of the year.

I would like to be able to schedule a show with BTV that is not in the guide and not using a 3rd party app.

By the way here's a compilation of current and new shows with their start date.

I think it would be cool to have a way to set up keyword searches that btv will notify you of in the viewscape... like an "upcoming keyword matches" like we have for "upcoming recordings".

You can get a PDF version by-date at the following links:
All Premiers (including returning and new shows) (http://brentevans.blogspot.com/2007/09/fall-2007-tv-season-premiers-ultimate.html)

Theres a listing on the each blog page and a downloadable PDF by date also.

And if you're a really aggressive TV watcher, you can go to Amazon Unbox and FOR FREE download the premiers of:

Is Something up with the BTV Buzz (stats) page (http://couchville.com/buzz)?

Here's last weeks top 20 from the Buzz Page (http://couchville.com/buzz):
1 - The Simpsons - He Loves to Fly and He D'ohs
2 - Grey's Anatomy - Come Rain or Come Shine: From Grey's Anatomy to Private Practice
3 - Family Guy - Blue Harvest, Parts 1 and 2
4 - Eureka - Maneater
5 - My Name Is Earl - The Trial
6 - Prison Break - Orientacion
7 - Burn Notice - Loose Ends
8 - The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
9 - The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
10 - The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
11 - Doctor Who - Utopia
12 - Desperate Housewives - Secrets & Lies

15 - Flash Gordon - Life Source
16 - The Colbert Report
17 - The Colbert Report
18 - The Colbert Report
19 - Back to You - Pilot
20 - K-Ville - Pilot

I just can't believe this is an accurate picture of BTV users unless the number of people using the "advanced feature" of statistics is much lower then last year. Anyone else think this looks a little off?

For reference, here's what Nielsen shows (http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/10/02/nielsen-ratings-for-the-week-ending-september-30/) for the top 20 from last week:
1. CSI (CBS)
2. Dancing with the Stars - Monday (ABC)
3. Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
4. Desperate Housewives (ABC)
5. Dancing with the Stars - Tues (ABC)
6. House (FOX)
7. Heroes (NBC)
8. Dancing with the Stars - Weds (ABC)

Would you care to share in approximate terms how many BTV users those stats represent? I'm doing a writeup of the Buzz Page on my blog and comparing it to the statistics from Reuters and Tivo so it might be useful to know how big the sample is.

I'd say the biggest difference between the two is that Buzz shows off the more tech savvy type shows while Nielson shows more mind number general population entertainment. While I would use Buzz to pick shows worth looking at, I really have no interest in the shows listed on Nielson that are not listed on Buzz. A bigger impact, I am more likely to look at shows listed on buzz not listed on Nielson (Like Eureka, etc)
