As closing on my new house approaches, we've decided to go with WOW (Wide Open West) cable versus Comcast. (I hate Comcast, but that's another rant.)

I'm not confident that I'll be able to get OTA HD reception, as the Home Theatre will be in the basement. I may try to find a way to run some wires out to the garage and put the antenna up there, but in the interim, I think I will elect to get a STB.

Does anyone here have experience with WOW!, especially in the Detroit area? I want to connect the STB (it may have to be the DVR version) to my BTV setup via Firewire, but I can't get a straight answer if my box will have firewire or not.

If you ask for it, they are forced to give you a STB with active firewire port... Though it might not be the model you want, it might not work too good if they are using Scientific Atlanta receivers and they might not have many "copy freely" channels... ;)

I have WOW in Chicago (can't believe I'm giving information to someone in Detroit!!). I get unencrypted QAM (locals) and was told that I could get a STB that would support firewire, but I never followed up on it (it actually took several phone calls and emails before someone understood what I wanted)
