If you haven't heard of Joost yet, then you will in a few more weeks. It is a web TV like application from ebay-skype and it has tons of potential. It's in beta right now and invite only. I have 0 invitations left so first reply, first serve. PM me your email for quicker responses.

I so hope they break the mould and become the first internet tv medium to include caption support =)

I tried it out last night, it's pretty cool, but I have one major complaint. The Joost application seem to be very mouse oriented, and unless there are some hotkey support I haven't found yet, would be hard to navigate with just a remote control, leaving it somewhat useless on a dedicated HTPC. The application itself is gorgeous though. They have really taken to heart the concept of transparent menus, overlaying them over the video window. Considering how early it is in the development, the content selection is pretty decent. The picture quality is good, better than most video streaming sites, though not quite up to Netflix streaming standards.

I agree, the hotkeys, the non working rewind and the fact that the option menu in BTV turns back to black after its use are my main issues... ;)

It turns out that they are shown at the bottom of the release notes... ;)

And there they are! I guess that will teach me to study release notes more carefully. Thanks!

Well, I got the basic features mapped to the remote, but this app sure has ways to go before it really supports remote control operation. There does not appear to be any way of pulling up the channel guide and browsing through it, selecting a channel and playing it. For instance, you can press C for the overall channel listing, but you can't navigate the menu that appears with the keyboard. The only way to select anything is to click with a mouse. I can't even find a way to pull up the My Channels listing using the keyboard.

You can navigate through it by pulling up the on-screen control (pressing Enter or I) then using up or down... but this is a single line display, not a proper listing....

I would like a Joost invite if there is one available. I've read several news stories about it and would like a chance to compare it vs. Netflix Live.

Can be sent to:

If anyone has a Joost Firefly XML file that works I would love to have it. I can't get Firefly to recognize the Joost application.

If you want to try out Joost before it is publicly released, go apply for the beta (http://www.joost.com/apply.html). You have to sign up by this Thursday, March 22nd and the Joost blog (https://www.joost.com/betatest/2007/03/last-call-for-beta-test-on-joost.com.html)says:

everyone who applies before we close on Thursday, 3/22 will get access to try out Joost within the next couple of weeks - how is that for a treat

After Thursday, the only way to get in before the public release would be through invitation from a current beta member only and those are limited.

Okay, the new Joost Beta (0.9) is out and it looks really nice. All current beta members should have five invites to give out so there will be several (I know there are several of us on the forums at least) who will probably give them out here on the forums. If you want a chance at my five invites, go to my blog HERE (http://brentevans.blogspot.com/2007/04/5-joost-invites-for-you-contest.html) and post a comment. I'll pick five random comments to give out the invites.

Good Luck!

I just signed up on the joost.com website and got my invitation to join today. (took 2-3 weeks). Video quality is quite good I have to say, but sadly , as always, they've chosen to ignore captioning *Sigh*.
