Hey,

I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing the following issue.

The guide will download and update at any given time during the day.

I understand that the download needs to be a random time to lower the load on the servers. That makes sense.

However, is it not possible to say when it should perform the actual update? Even with the updater task running at lower priority my system slows to a crawl when it's doing the update. Sometimes this will happen when I'm recording 2 shows at once and watching a pre-recorded show.

Without the update happening, the system is just fine.

I know there's a seperate tool that can do this, but I try to keep the 3rd party tools to a minimum (more break points).

Is there a way to set this up, or is it something that can be added as a feature?

Something isn't right if your system is slowing to a crawl.

A Duron 700 can record and watch in mpe-2 while a guide update is happening without noticing a change.

A P4 1.7Ghz machine has been tested recording and watching HD while an update is going on without a difference in behavior.

Since both of these machines are basically at the low end of the respective scales for SD and HD, let's try and figure out what's different for you.

What BTV version?

Showsqueeze enabled? If so, what hours does it run?

SmartChapter generation enabled? Immediate or off hours?

Dedicated hard drive for recordings or recording to the system drive?

What specifically is slow during the update? (Video skipping frames or just slower keypress response?)

The system is an AMD Athlon XP 1400 I think. Something like that. 512MB's ram.

No showsqueeze/smartchaptering going on.

BTV 4.4

2 PVR-150's. ATI x1300 video card.

1 HD for OS. 3 HD's for recording, they have been stripped together to appear as one large drive.

Video starts to stutter as well as key presses are slower to respond (ie like click exit and it takes 5-10 seconds to exit from the video to the video info screen).

This time I noticed when this started happening the Guide update was at 60% Setting Base Lineup or something like that.

What SnapStream.Net lineups do you have attached to your account and roughly how many channels on each of them?

I have 2, one for Dishnetwork and one for Starchoice.

I'd say about 800 or so channels total, a lot of them I hide in the WebAdmin.
