How much space is needed on a CF card? [Archive]

I've tried sending a 54Mb file (that transcoded very nicely, thank you) to a 128Mb CF card on my iPaq.

After repeated failures, I gave up on using PocketPVS for this and went back to good ol' drag and drop from within Windows File Explorer. It got up to ~32Mb then died with an error "insufficient space".

That leaves me concluding that >96Mb was needed for temp space or something similar. Am I right? Is this a limitation I need to be aware of and work around (read: live with)?

Worked around this:

Was using File Explorer to drag and drop these to the Storage Card on the iPaq. Very limiting - couldn't get more than ~30Mb on there owing to something (no idea what) ActiveSync was doing.

Tried putting the storage card in my laptop and then doing drag and drop with no additional 'conversion' step.

Now have files >= 120Mb on the card that will then play beautifully.
