View Full Version : How best to deinterlace 1080i .tp ?

I'm building a HTPC. In fact, my Fusion/BTV bundle should be waiting at home for me. http://forums.snapstream.com/public_html/ubb/smile.gif My HTPC will be almost exclusively for watching recorded transport streams. I am lucky enough to get good OTA reception.

But before I start ordering more parts, I need clarity on the deinterlacing issue.

When I have played 1080i test clips on my game PC, with MediaPlayerClassic, it looks great -- no combing. But 1080i SHOULD show combing, so what is de-interlacing it? My X800XL video card? The mpg2 decoder? (I think I have Cyberlink DVD installed.)

Or is my player just throwing away half the fields? I just thought of that. Hmm, I guess I should experiment with VLC, its DI options are well exposed.

If I were to play a 1080i .tp on a GF 6600GT w/ PureVideo, presumably the built-in DI would kick in. But what about a board with the GF 6150 video built in? Those don't include the DI feature of PV--so do they suck for watching 1080i?

(Once I get this figured out, video and mobo choice will become clear, then I can worry about CPU... dual core or not? Ack!)

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts on the matter.
