Hi everyone,
I realize this issue has come up before, but I haven't seen anything clear on how people have actually solved it if anyone really has.
I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 and it always records about 2.4GB an hour for MPEG 2, no matter how low I turn the MPEG 2 quality setting. I know BeyondTV support says it's a hardware limitation, but WinTV records at lower qualities than that, so it can't really be. Changing drivers hasn't worked. The beta drivers actually increased the file size. :)
Thoughts?

WinXP Pro, Beyond TV4.

This was a known driver limitation with the USB2, but hasn't been in several releases of the driver. You might want to update them.

The work around is to load the Hauppauge application, change the quality in that application, save and exit. Then BTV will use that.

that's weird..i use the usb driver from here for the hauppauge win usb 2 as well and have no problem in either btv web admin or in the program normally to change quality and it records about 3.3 gig for 1 hour and 6.5 for 2 hour (best quality). i use winxp pro sp2. the only time i had the file limitation size issue was the old fat 32 issue with maximum of 4 gig file size..

Hi tenax,
I'm not talking about a file size limitation. I'm talking about the ability to make files of lower quality than standard DVD. It'll record forever if I let it. :)

I've been using up to date drivers all along (but I did reload them again).
I tried lowering the quality in WinTV, but it didn't seem to affect anything in BeyondTV. How does BTV know to look to WinTV? Do I need BTV's quality setting on something specific? Right now, it's on "Fair".

Yeah, I tried editing the setting in the web interface too. No luck.

In case anyone else has this problem:
I installed old drivers and the problem disappeared. The problem is present in the current drivers.

Hi,

Which driver did you find that made it possible to reduce the size? I have been using the latest drivers. Unable to get file size down also.

I have been having the same problem - sure would be nice to get 2hrs on one DVD.

Thank you
