Who (else) wants it?

Maybe 'wake from standby' or 'turn on the monitor', but who leaves their DVR box off?

It could just be me. :)

Curious...do you watch your shows on a different box then you record them on?

The computer I turn off is the computer which uses BTV Link and have the remote. I can have the option of pressing CTRL + another key to run on from keyboard but would be better if I could do it from the remote.

I have a server box that is on all of the time. I have 2 link boxes that go to standby and have a Firefly on each link box.

What if I had an extra firefly receiver on the server listening to all firefly channels. If it received a signal for a specific channel and it was the "D" button ... then it sent a "wake on lan" messge to a specific computer.

I know this is not the desired method and would not work for everyone ... but it might work if the always on computer were close enough to get the signal .. and Snapstream provided a utility for the server. This assumes snapstream is just peddling the firefly from another vendor and is unable to make it "wake on usb".

Note: I currently have a job on my server to send a WOL mesage at certain times during the day ... like when my kid is supposed to get home from school and in the morning.

I'd love to have it, but I've also got an Nvidia Nforce board. they're notorius for leaving the "wakeup from usb device" feature turned off. For now I just waste energy by leaving it on 24/7. It also acts as my photo server (Using Gallery.sf.net)

I definately want wake up from standby mode. . .
Power on would be sweet, but the 1st one is more important to me. . .

Interesting idea... my firefly is coming in today, I'm converting from an old ATi Remote Wonder v1. I'm curious if the RW receiver will pick up the firefly since they're the same base tech. If so I might just get this idea to work.

Here's hoping...

Yes the ATI RW v1 and firefly receivers will both receive signals from the other remote. However, the way buttons map to codes differs between the firefly and remote, so you will get different results from each one. (play on one might be rewind on the other etc).

You can work around this by using something like girder, and assigning each remote to a specific channel and mapping codes different per remote control. I did this with mine - I used the firefly drivers ( because BM didn't seem to like installing at the time without firefly ) and then mapped my ati remote into firefly's codes.

Well gee, that was fairly painless... once I got my comp working with wake on LAN. I may toy with girder, I don't know. As I have it now the only thing it does is send the WOL packet when I hit the big firefly button. Gonna have to integrate the WOL into my bittorrent copy batch, but that shouldn't be too bad at all.

All in all the FF seems to be a nice piece of hardware. I always liked my ATi RW, aside from the odd signal issues I got from time to time. In comparison the ATi is rather clunky (I always hated that big mouse dpad...

Now last whiney question... why does the default profile not map MENU to open the start menu.. I mean comeon guys! Major oversight! At least it was quickly fixable ^^
