For those who have been having trouble with capturing on the AIW, I think I have finally found the setting that makes a difference for me. The key was found in a combination of two different capture format settings.
Here's the exact set of steps I took to set the proper capture formats for my h/w and s/w:
1. Run c:\program files\windows media components\encoder\wmenc.exe
2. At the "Welcome to Windows Media Encoder" dialog, select "Create a custom encoding session." (If you don't get this dialog, you may have to select "Tools - Add or Remove Sources.")
3. At the "Sources" tab on the "New Session dialog, click on the "New" button.
4. On the "Sources and Archive" tab, select your video and audio devices.
5. Click on "Configure" next to the video device.
6. Click on "Video Format".
7. Make a selection under "Image Format."
- "ATI VCR 1.0" and "ATI VCR 2.0" did NOT work for me.
- "YUY2 Packed Data", "YVU12 Planar (MPEG Raw)", and "YUY2 Packed Data" DID work for me.
8. Click "OK" twice to return to the "New Source Group" dialog.
9. Select the "Video Optimization" tab.
10. Change the "Pixel format" selection to "RGB 24".
11. Click on "OK" to return to the "New Session" dialog, and "OK" to close this dialog.
12. Exit Windows Media Encoder.
There may be other settings that also work, but these worked for me. I think the key thing was finally finding the "RGB 24" setting hidden within Windows Media Encoder.
Thanks for all the tips, I'm really excited now that I get to tryout Snapstream!
