Hello. I downloaded this excellent piece of software because of the lack of (working!) functionality in any other alternative.
I have a Windows 98 SE system with a Hauppauge WinTV/FM PCI card (driver 4.18) and Windows Media Tools 4.1 installed. I managed to install version b3a (b3b not available without WME7 yet?) but I could only run the "...(debug)" shortcut, since the "tray" shortcut dies with the message:
A required DLL cannot be found: WMVCORE.DLL
I suppose this means WME7 has to be installed for the "tray" shortcut to work ... anyway, I ran the console version, all OK.
After I entered Hauppauge WinTV, Cable and Ireland in the first settings screen, I restarted the server so that they take effect. Then I entered a few channels with their correct frequencies and entered a custom test recording. However, the recording, while successfully starting up the WinTV engine, it didn't actually tune to the frequency of the channel I chose for the test - instead, it tuned itself to the last channel I was watching earlier with Hauppauge's native WinTV2000 app!
Strange enough until now? There's more ... Whatever it recorded, it was all PERFECT (near-VHS quality and decent audio) BUT when I ran a subsequent test on a different frequency, it went one step backwards: it did record the picture of the same channel as the first test (again, not the one I chose for this second test) and the sound was not there! If I restart the server, it works fine - for the first and final time that is!
So until now, the functionality I get is:
- Console mode only.
- For each recording, the server has to be restarted otherwise there's no sound from the second recording onwards.
- Frequency tuning isn't working yet.
Now, I didn't think that the actual CHANNEL number would be important (i.e. maybe I should enter the frequency of a certain station to a SPECIFIC channel number) but I would need some confirmation on this from SnapStream support since I couldn't find any relevant item in the documentation.
I couldn't see any reference to this behaviour to-date, so I would appreciate any efforts towards fixing these. I am fully available to cooperate if needed. I chose NOT to install WME7 because WMT4.1 seems to work just fine for the settings I entered. Judging by the performance on the first encoding after a server startup, everything is OK; it only "goes south" after that http://discuss.snapstream.com/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!
