Comcast just raised the prices again in my area so that they are easily $10 more expensive than a dish system would be. So the question is, DirecTV or Dish Network?
I like the ability to use the serial cable to connect to a DirecTV reciever, but Dish Network can be a bit cheaper with dual tuner receivers and back feeding so that I only need two recievers vs. four with DirecTV.
Which way would you go?

Personally I have Directv because of the Sunday Ticket. Otherwise, Dish is cheaper and offers basically the same stuff. Search around the net and local newspapers for a good installation deal, meaning FREE installation and FREE equipment.
I would NEVER subscribe to cable (although I get basic cable free because of my cable modem).

What about with how SnapStream works with them both? Serial connection to DirecTV seems like it would be better than the irblaster solution for Dish.

The dual Dish recevicer (322) users IR to change channels on stream 1 and RF to change channels on stream 2. How would BTV change channels on stream 2?
Stream 1 would be svideo and stream 2 would be composite ... I fear you would easily see a difference in the recording quality between the two feeds.

You might get better picture quality switching from cable, but that really varies. I go to the homes of friends and am shocked as to the poor picture quality from the local cable compared to what I see at home.
If you choose Dish, I suggest the Dish 311 receiver. Get as many as you can for free, and then hit ebay if you need more.
Note: there is likely an additional receiver fee charged every month, $5, after two receivers

Oh yeah, I forgot about that...another good reason to go with Directv...not sure if any Dish receivers can do that.
