I received version 1.1 of Beyond Media (including an install key) with a Diamond XtremeTV PVR550 I purchased. I was able to download and upgrade to version 1.1. I installed the DVD library plugin and successfully located all my rips. However when I attempt to play a ripped or DVD movie I receive the following message:

"Upgrade Beyond Media for DVD support with Dolby Digital Sound"

Searched all forums and found no instances of this message. If I use the custom settings and specify a 3rd party player (SimpleVideo) I able to play both ripped and DVD movies. Any ideas...

I don't see any replies here, and I'm not entirely sure about it, but I'll give it a shot. I think your 3rd party software player is working because it has a proper decoder to playback the Dolby or decode AC3 or what-ever. I "think" the playback of the VOBs with the BM setup however, may require either that your sound card has the proper decoder or that you have some sort of audio decoder installed that will work with your sound card's output.

I'm guessing the BM playback is using only the default stuff available in your sound card's configuration. Maybe you just have to enable the proper sound codec to work with the BTV application ??

Just a very "un-educated" guess there that might give you some ideas about where to find a solution ??

Thanks to all who provided input. After several hours of googling I discovered the version of BM packaged with the Diamond PVR-550 is the "Subscriber Version". Which is essentially a trial version and does not include the functionality to play DVDs. Since then I have purchased the packaged version of BM + BTV + firefly remote for $115.00 @ Newegg and it works flawlessly.
