Any idea how to set the location of the timeshifting buffer in this release?

I deleted my old buffers, then recycled BTV and played LiveTV.
They were not created inplace of the old ones.
I am unable to find them on any of my drives .... very odd.

I know... and this slicing concept... any literature on that?

Are they in your default recording folder ? They might be hidden

nope .. I "show hidden files"

did search on all drives for ".dat" and again for "buffer" ... nothing except the old buffers in my recycle bin ... which I then cleared.

checked all video folders, old buffer location, snapstrem in 'program files', all snapsteam folders in 'documents&settings'

i was looking for this today as well. i like to set up my timeshifting location on my larger drive and not on a default install drive.

i'm also wondering what the slicing is all about.

as a side note, has it always set the buffer to use Better Quality? is that now configurable as well.

there are 2 types of hidden files..
i think you have to show protected files as well..

The files are hidden and are located in your default recording folder. The files now just hidden mpg files.

I just noticed that!

It explains how they're doing the retro feature and what slicing may be all about.

I have a theory - slicing is the separation of the timeshifting buffer files according to the showtimes on the tv guide.

Confirmations? Comments?

I posted a bug about this in a earlier beta. I always kept the buffers on a separate drive from my recordings. Didn't want to take up my recording space with it, I have enough free space on my OS drive to handle the buffer so I thought I could give myself a few more hours of recording space on my record drive. I noticed a few releases ago that the location was no longer listed as a setting you could change. I was told that is the way it is now, and I guess nothing has changed.

draiko, that is correct. You win a cookie! :toast:

I would like to explain a little more to everyone about how this works. The slicing architecture requires that slices be created in your default recording directory. Why is that, you ask? Because if they were not, recordings in progress would not be able to picked up by the Recorded Shows screen...and they do have to go somewhere. We felt the default recording directory made the most sense since the average user would never need to look at the setting and everything would still work.

Can this default model of how things work be improved upon? Yes, of course. But we do have to start somewhere. I anticipate we will continue to make changes that improve how this capture system works. So please bear with us. =)
