Hi,

I'm having trouble getting the PVS to tune
to Australian channels.

I am using a Hauppauge WinTV-USB. The WinTV-USB is working correctly with the software that came with it, and also with AMCAP.

However, PVS doesn't seem to be able to tune it. I have a a theories as to why... Can anyone at SnapStream help confirm/unconfirm this??

My theory could well be wrong... It would
be great if someone could give me some
advice. I'm keen to get PVS working... but
I've spent far too much time on it already
without any luck...

With WDM, PVS is not tuning the card, it is
merely setting it to a particular channel?
This would mean that the WDM interface
will work with USA cards but not with
any other country?

Reasons to suspect this:
- The PVS activity log says:

[2/4/2001 19:30:10] IAMTVTuner->
put_InputType to Antenna.
[2/4/2001 19:30:10] IAMTVTuner->
put_Channel to 11.

It doesn't say the frequency it is
tuning to... I noticed that it will
say if you use a different tuning
interface.

- After playing with AMCAP, I noticed
the following... It appears that the
channels tuned to by PVS correspond
to the channels that appear in
AMCAP. AMCAP's default frequencies
however are for USA (country code 1) so
they don't work in Australia.

I can get AMCAP to tune correctly by
telling it the country is Australia
(country code 61). Is there some way
for PVS to set the country in the same
manner?

Any help would be grealy appreciated,
Kevin

THanks for posting this. I've just spent a frustrating few hours in the UK trying to get a very similar set-up to yours (WinTV USB; checking with AMCAP etc etc) working, totally without success. I perhaps have a better understanding why, thanks to your posting. Have you had any response from SnapMedia yet (outside of newsgroups, that is?

Kevin and Ian,

I will add the proper country setting call to the WDM driver support. Hopefully this will fix your particular problems with international tuning.

Thanks very much! I'm looking forward to trying the next version. If I can get it to work correctly with my setup, I'll probably be buying a full version.

I've just downloaded the latest version of PVS.

I used AMCAP to get both the frequencies AND channel numbers, matching those up to the PVS settings. This appears to work. I'm using WDM, which is also nice.

So, success! Thanks for all the help

Where can I get the program AMCAP from ?

I don't see it in the SnapStream directory.

The link above has more information on AMCAP -- it is a sample application with the DirectX SDK. It's not part of our install.

The latest version of PVS uses the WDM tuning frequency database based on your selection of country code -- so if you are using a WDM device, simply select the correct country code.

Was there something else you were hoping to do with the AMCAP application besides get channel tuning frequencies for a particular country?
