In order to avoid this, WMEDist had to be installed, so beta3c is the last version
which works with a "vanilla" Encoder 4.1/Player 6.4 system - however it would
be nice to be able to use a vanilla system without having to install WMEDist,
see last note below.
*** "About this PVS" shows:

--- END LOG ---
Ummm ... not very informative, is it http://discuss.snapstream.com/ubb/smile.gif
*** After starting a manual recording, this message appears:
"[11/28/2000 21:43:45] Master: Error - slave has started to record an unknown show."
and, sure enough, after stopping it:
"[11/28/2000 21:44:50] Master: Error - APEX finished recording an unknown show."
The recordings were OK, so what was the error, guys? http://discuss.snapstream.com/ubb/smile.gif
*** Successfully recorded with 4.1 and 7.0 - see below for playback with Player
6.4. Using AVICap generated an error about no recording engine being selected
(?) while DirectShow worked but, again, using 7.0 encoding. Does this mean
DirectShow only cooperates with Encoder 7.0?
*** Question: What is the "Live TV" option on the Activity Log window supposed to show? I just see the following:
--- START LOG ---
Status: <whatever status it's at>
Next recording: <next scheduled show>
--- END LOG ---
but just gray emptyness below http://discuss.snapstream.com/ubb/smile.gif - is it supposed to show a TV window there?
I watched it both while idle and while it was recording a show.
*** After recording a show, I cannot view
TV with my normal viewing app (WinTV2000 in a WinTV-PCI/FM) - audio is quiet.
Any idea what causes this? I need to reboot in order to view with WinTV2000. This actually happened in previous versions too, at least the beta3 line.
*** Unfortunately, although the audio drivers for 4.1 and 7.0 don't seem to cause
a problem for Player 6.4 (audio plays OK even in 7.0-encoded files), video is
still unplayable unless Player 7 is installed - shouldn't WMEDist.exe
install video codecs for playback too? (sorry for moaning to you!)
Due to the above, and because I don't especially like the new Player 7, I'll
stick with 4.1-encoded content, although I still have to install WMEDist.exe
in order to use it (otherwise, the IPF mentioned above occurs in SSWIZARD)
That's it for this version - I really don't mind installing WMEDist, but to have to install Player 7 just to have video playback (as per above, audio playback is fine with 6.4) ... isn't this another Microsoft mess http://discuss.snapstream.com/ubb/smile.gif
