It is possible to have BTV 3.5 and Retro installed simultaneously? I'd like to be able to test Retro, but don't want to mess up all of my systems. I'm currently running BTV on a server and using BTV Link in the living room.

I would think that you could have them installed at the same time, but of course only one would be able to run (thereby missing any scheduled recordings). Then again, I could be dead wrong, as I am just speculating here.

If you've got WinXP and can install Retro as another user, that may work. Somehow you'd have to tell Windows not to "share" retro with the other users. At least that would keep things separate, though you would miss scheduled recordings when using Retro since 3.5 wouldn't be running.
Just an idea, maybe it won't work.

But even with installing it under different users (which for some reason I think btv checks for that and wont let you), the two installs would still be sharing the same settings folder which could make things a little shady.

you can only have one copy of any version of beyondTV installed at any given time, if you want to run two versions you have to run it on two seperate systems (or get clever with a dual boot computer or something)

Any problems loading on top of an old trial, or should I re-install Windows before loading Retro? I haven't used my "test" machine since running the trial for 3.5.1.

As feared, I received the "Your Beyond TV trial period has expired" message when installing on my test system. Unless anyone has a better idea, I guess I'll need to reinstall Windows before proceeding with the testing....

AFAIK, the betas in the past have not reseted the trial period. The final "gold" version typically does, but not the betas.

Nevertheless, there is no real reason to install this on a test machine, its a rather stable build.

I kind of like not having the wife / children playing around with test settings, and they seem to want to watch TV at exactly the same time that I want to test. Also, the test system has the Avermedia Stereo card in it, which gives me a less-common card to test (and play) with. I'll try reinstalling the OS and the reload the beta.

Brett,

I've tried Link in the past but I wanted to use the beta link with Retro. My trial for Link has expired from the previous usage and as a result I can't test the beta version of Link. Is there a solution?

Thanks,
Bully
