I just upgraded to the latest version, and found the following:

I have my shows directory set to d:\shows

Which is cool. It records fine, if I open the folder in explorer, I can play the movies fine, however none of the shows are appearing in the "watch" or "manage shows" menus....

Kinda wierd, huh?

Any ideas how to fix it?

Ignore me...

I restarted snapstream in the task tray, and it all works fine now....

Odd...

Actually, I note that there is a long delay before the shows appear in the Watch list. In one case, a show I recorded last night, never appeared even though it was in the Shows subdirectory. Is there some way to manually get the shows to appear?

I'm having the same problem, shows only show up after I restart the program.

I've got the same prob...shows will show up after I record a second show or if I delete a show from the shows directory.

Same problem here. Win98SE, ATI AIW 128.

Strange...

Typically you should see something along these lines when a recording completes.

[2/21/2001 11:34:04] Master: TESTER has finished recording "SnapStream Diagnostic Test".
[2/21/2001 11:34:28] Shows.Insert: Added "SnapStre-0-02-21-2001.asf" to the show database.

I assume the added message is not appearing for you?

On my 1.1a with a 500mhz cpu it takes about 6 minutes for shows to be added to the database using near VHS, or about 300mb

What is happening to the index file during this period?

The retagging of a show's data requires us to write out an entirely new copy of the file. On large files, this can take a good amount of time. Additionally, we rate-limit the speed at which this is done in order to avoid thrashing the disk too heavily, which could potentially interfere with ongoing recordings or interfere with normal use of the system.

Any solution to this problem? Seeing same thing here... v1.10a AIW 128 pro on Windows 98. Never see the Shows.insert call.

Thanks,

Brian--

does the first show get inserted on a subsequent recording -- we've seen this behavior reported from some users. could you send us an activity log of a recording (or more than one recordings) where the shows.insert isn't happening? while we've done some things that ameliorate the situation, we're really trying to pin it down precisely and your activity log might help. You can e-mail the activity log to techsupport@snapstream.com

I started seeing the delayed posting of files to the watch list after I switched over to the WDM driver. When I the VFM driver its happens right after the recording, give or take a few minutes for indexing.

It seems like a lot of people have noticed the large lag between the end of recording and a shows appearance in the Watch list. A number have noticed that sometimes they can force the recording's appearance by deleting a show and/or recording another one. The behaviour on my system has gone even further than that - the only way I can make new recordings to appear is to shut down and restart SnapStream.

What caught my eye about your post is your mention of WDM vs. VFW. I've noticed that on my machine, WDM is the only driver which works reliably for recording. VFW has ranged from taking forever to start recording, forgetting to record entirely, to outright crashing of SnapStream (which it has now settled on). I'd love to find out if the appearance of recordings is faster with VFW, if only it wouldn't crash the app. http://discuss.snapstream.com/ubb/smile.gif

Also, rakeshagrawal if you are reading this... Your comment about "retagging" of the files requiring a re-copying of the entire file = bad design/programming. Boooo!

I figured that after posting my Boooo! comment I'd better at least offer some constructive input: externalize the metadata for the recorded shows into filesystem-persistent XML. Once the ASF files are recorded the application should not ever touch them.
