This is a pretty rough preview. Needs a lot of configuration options (since it doesn't have any right now). I felt this was the best way to get some feed back, make sure the drive space stuff was working, etc.

So let me know what you think, what to improve, what *needs* to be an option, or anything else.

Can MBM monitor the S.M.A.R.T data on a harddrive? I just installed it on my Dell 400SC and I can get it to read the temp on only one of my harddrives, but there doesn't seem to be anything else.

Also, did you use a plugin in MBM5 to get disk space or are you polling that directly from Windows? ie...should I install that plugin?

Disk stuff comes straight from Windows via WMI calls. I don't know too much about drive temp monitoring, since I've never tried it. I'll play around with it a bit more tonight and see what I can learn.

HD temp is one item. What I would really like is to see any S.M.A.R.T. warnings that may be able to help me buy a replacement drive before loosing one so I don't loose information. I believe that is part of S.M.A.R.T.

It looks like it should be possible to read the SMART data, but its a non-trivial operation. No ETA on when that might show up, but put it on the "eventually" list.

Great PlugIn! How about an option in the Options Screen to display the temperatures in Farenheit of Centigrade? Thanks!

Great plugin. I can monitor CPU temperature without leaving BM. I second the option for F or C readings! Also, how bout an image of a hmmm... a computer in the main menu of BM next to the title "System Status". I would do this myself but I am not sure where to insert the pointer to an image. Anyway, your work is appreciated for making this a better product! Thanks.

That is a great plug-in. I have been waiting for a temperature utility to monitor my small shuttle PC case that didn't require minimizing BM & BTV to view. Glad I can now easily view it in BM. Great work, keep it up...

Really nice plugin and would like to use it...unfortunately MBM5 doesn't support any of the ASUS ATI based chipset MB ( like the P4R800-VM). Just curious if anyone here has had any luck getting the ATI IGP 9100 chipset to work with MBM or know what type of sensors it uses.

Any chance of getting this to work with hmonitor or speedfan?:winkwink:

I am interested in finding out my HD temperatures. How are you guys doing this? I looked around MBM and couldn't see how this is being done.

Nice app, I noticed there is no icon in the menu for this plugin.

SpeedFan works really well for me. I would vote for Jason to offer this plugin with Speedfan as an option as well as MBM. I use the LCDSmartie to display CPU Temp, HD Temps and fan speeds.

kilrsat: what about getting cpu and pf usage just like in the windows task manager.

Your BIOS should warn you upon bootup if your HD's S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics has determined that the drive is starting to fail.

The Plug-in is a great idea, however after installing it, the only thing that reads correctly is the Drive Status. All of the other catagories show me weird, random characters that don't resemble anything close to numbers. Could this be a problem with my BIOS config? If you have any ideas, please let me know. I'd love to get this plug-in off the ground.

Thanks a lot! Keep up the good work!

You either a) don't have MBM installed, b) don't have MBM running, or c) both a & b.

I thought I'd throw a little update out here.

I was playing around with things this afternoon, and there should be a version with both MBM and SpeedFan support "soon".

I have the SpeedFan stuff working in a test app, but I still have to swing that over to the real thing. I'll also go through and add the finishing touches that this thing needs, like Farenheit display support, etc.

So no, this thing isn't dead. It was just taking a nap while I work on other stuff.

Updated with SpeedFan support and Celsius/Farenheit toggle option.

Just downloaded and installed. So far so great. A lot of really good potential on this one. I'll live with it for a couple of days and post some suggestions.

The speedfan support is what makes it for me. I am using speedfan to provide data to LCDSmartie as well. Both seem to co-exist well so far.

Thanks for the superb work!

I have ran this a couple of days now without issue. I really like the concept and will keep running it even it there are no more updates.

I do have some suggestions for what it "needs" and some more for WOW factor stuff.

Needs ideas
Adjustable refresh rate.
Friendly names for Fans and Temps
Ability to hide individual Fans and Temps
For readability, I would add a space between the fan value and "RPM"

WOW factor ideas
1. Consider a Summary screen showing a overall status

2. How about an ability to set up a monitor on specific HD free space, Temps or Fans. If the value goes above/below a specified value, alert the the viewer. Lots of options for alerts here.

A translucent overlay popping up on screen would be really cool.

How about a "Warning" indicator on the BM main screen when something is out of range? Like the recording red ball.

On the plugin main screen show the out of range items as alerts.

Let the user specify a wav to play when an alert condition is met.

If you allowed them to run an external program when an alert fires then the user could send themselves an email/page/text message or shutdown the PC.
Cool plugin. Thanks again

First of all, great plug-in! I isntalled it and decided to go with Speedfan because it seems to work better for me although I was already using one that came with my Motherboard. Two questions:

1. Is there a way for me to use my original monitor program or is it used only with the two listed?
2. Is there a way to eliminate some of the temps it displays? Currently it displays 6 different temps and I really only want to see a few of them. One is reading -125C.

Again, thanks for your work on the plug-in. Have a great day!

I recently upgraded my existing system status plugin with the new system status plugin from July 27th 2005. After installing it over on top of the old one, I lost my 'system status' option on Beyond Media's main menu. It used to work fine but now the option has vanished.

Upon this realization, I completely removed the system status plugin and reinstalled the July 27th update. Afterwards, I the 'system status' option still doesn't show in my BM main menu.

Is there something that I am doing wrong? Did the 'system status' option move to somewhere else in BM menus?

Thanks...

Hi, I'm wondering if there was any thoughts on adapting this for BTV. Not really interested in using BM, but love my BTV. Hope there's a way to adapt it =]

This is probably a dumb question, but how to you get the plugin to install to use in BM? I downloaded speedfan, installed and have it running. I double clickedon the systemstatus plugin but it ask's what program to open it up with. How do u install a Plugin for BM or BTV?

What is the file extension of the plug-in you downloaded? It should have a ".bmplugin" extension on the end of the file.

it is the plugin from the 1st post on this thread. systemstatus2.bmplugin

Do you have Beyond Media installed on the PC that you downloaded the plugin to?

I have the Beyond Media Basic that came with my firefly remote which I think is the problem. I probably need the full version of BM to have the plugin's work and install the sdk as well. Is that right?

As far as I know, none of the plug-ins work with Beyond Media Basic.

I have Beyond Media (non-Basic) and it doesn't give me the ability to install plug-ins either.

I upgraded to BTV 4.8.1 this week. I think the BM System Status plugin used to show the tuners and if they are idle or recording in the BM main menu. But since I upgraded BTV it's now a blank icon area.

Could this connection feature now be broken with BTV 4.8.1? Has anyone else noticed this?
