View Full Version : "Record All Episodes" Records Duplicates

I just noticed in BTV 3.5 when I set up a show to "Record All Episodes" that it will also re-record episodes that I already have (they are re-compressed WMVs in a separate folder). This was not the case in 3.4 and I'm just wondering if this is a bug or how the "Record All Episodes" function now works under 3.5.
Thanks

I noticed this also, and my shows are all in MPEG2 still. I think that probably because the guide database has changed, it doesn't recognize any of your existing shows as being part of the series. I wonder if there is an easy fix for this.

From an earlier post from Brett(trimmed down):
if you record show X, it will not record that same episode again for 30 days if in recentrecordings.xml or forever if in blockedrecordings.xml.
There is no way to define the "30" days.
"All episodes" will record any episode that airs that has not been recorded already once in the previous 30 days.

I think it's definitely a case that your shows were recorded with an old version and it quite simply doesn't know that it's the same show or recently recorded.
You'll find the behaviour works fine when you've cycled your old video out and have new recordings from 3.5. I've never had a repeat recording while running 3.5 under beta. (except when the recording failed due to my tinkering and I wanted it to record it again the next day which it dutifully did :)

This behavior would be fine, but shouldn't it also check to see if that episode is currently stored on the hard disk before recording it? On a series with frequent re-runs, you could end up with up to a dozen copies of the same episode on your hard disk after a year.

It has been confirmed by SnapStream that it is a guide database issue:

Greetings, Jeff:
Version 3.5 uses a completely new (and better) method for determining which shows have been recorded and which have not. Unfortunately, this does not carry over from version 3.4.x. You'll probably notice duplicate recordings for about a week (rough estimate). However, you can now delete the recordings and Beyond TV will still keep in mind that you've already recorded them, and will not record them for X days (which is configurable). I'll make a knowledge base article on that soon.
