I'm trying to get my firefly remote to work with some emulators like mame and zsnes but I just can't seem to make it pass any keystrokes. For testing I'm just trying to make the directional buttons work.

I've added the following to my global.xml file:

<Actions Button="Right" Description="right">
<KeyAction Keys="{right}" />
</Actions>
<Actions Button="Left" Description="Left">
<KeyAction Keys="{left}" />
</Actions>
<Actions Button="Down" Description="Down">
<KeyAction Keys="{down}" />
</Actions>
<Actions Button="Up" Description="Up">
<KeyAction Keys="{up}" />
</Actions>
<Actions Button="OK" Description="Select">
<KeyAction Keys="{enter}" />
</Actions>

Has anyone gotten thier remote to work with mame and/or other emus?

First you'll need to add the right window ID's. Easiest way it to use the id prog that comes with FF. Make a new profile with the included profile editer name it anything and add the ID info to it and save. Open the saved profile with notepad and copy paste the identifier info to the global file. think that will work anyway.

I'd use a seperate profile for mame personnally instead of messin with the global.

we can build a profile for you pretty easily -- would you let us know more about what software you have installed (so we can replicate those particular emulators here in-house)? once we get the info from you, it shouldn't take us more than a couple of days.

Sounds good to me rakeshagrawal.

I'm using a few emulators but only one is causing me problems and thats Zsnes. You can find it at http://www.zsnes.com (http://www.zsnes.com/) I'm using version 1.36.

Basically the only thing that I want my remote to be able to do is close the emulator. The close button works fine with all the other emulators that I'm running (nnnesterJ, gens, mame, project64) but for some reason it just wont close zsnes. I have to power on my laptop and vnc in to hit alt+f4 when we want to close a snes game. not to useful ... kills my WAF.

Thats really the only complaint I have about my FF remote. Other than some slight range issues it work perfect! Any help getting this fixed would be much apprecaited.

You use your Mame with a wireless joypad on your TV?

I'd love to have some olld Snes games....

Well i'd like to be able to use my FF with simple games like pacman but I use my wireless logitech controler in conjunction with my remote so i can play what ever i want. It works really well with the exception of zsnes and mame32k.

Everything ties together perfectly with myhtpc:

The FF remote should tie everything together to keep things easy enough for my wife and visitors to be able to use.

Sorry Type82, you slipped through the cracks, but I'm on it now. I'll get back to you in a couple hours.

I'd really like to get Firefly working with DAPHNE, so I can play Dragon's Lair proper from the couch.

I'd appreciate help figuring out how to do this ...

Yeah, and if you need anything, let me know ... I'm happy to help provide whatever I can. I could probably get the GUID for Daphne for you ...

I'll work on it this weekend and have something for early next week.

ThunderRT6FormDC
C:\daphne\DaphneLoader.exe
Daphne Loader 1.2

DAPHNE PLAY WINDOW
SDL_app

Hey, so I'm working on this. Does anyone know where I can get some (hopefully) legal roms for these things? I'm not a big emulator guy myself.

You can get ROM files for Daphne at:

http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/

However, the MPG files are well over a gigabyte (not something you'll find laying around). You CAN purchase the DVD**ROM** edition of Dragon's Lair on DVD (should be $10 in a bargain bin) and use DVD2DAPH (http://www.laserarchive.com/dvd2daph/) to "rip" the DVD down to the hard drive in "daphne ready" format. This is legal.

I'd be MORE than happy to work with you on IM interactively to get Daphne behaving (maybe you wouldn't have to go through all the work) - just let me know - I'll do whatever I can.

So an update. I got zsnes working ok. It's not very responsive and you can't press two buttons at the same time. Seems like something you'd only use for RPGs. Unfortunately I uncovered a bug in my button faking code that made me unable to control zsnes. I fixed it, so now it's working. The problem now is that the zsnes profile isn't going to work with your version of Firefly. We are going to beta the next version of Firefly next week, so if you would like the znes (and other emulator software) profiles please join the FF beta program (http://betaprogram.snapstream.com/) and we'll have something for you next week. If you don't want to sign up or are willing to wait, then it'll be a couple of weeks after that.

I've been trying to make Daphne work ... unfortunately, while the OSD shows its getting the buttons, the program isn't accepting them or something.

Any ideas? Let me know if there is anything I can try.
