New to the board Please help

Ok guys im really new when it comes to using this kind of software and hardware so I have a few questions. Please help if you can and if i missed it somewhere im sorry.

here is what i want to do. I want to be able to use the software/hardware to bring something in from either my sat or my video recorder and then burn it to a dvd and it be in dvd quality. I read on here how to do some of this but i wanted to get some different responses on the issue. I realize that you guys are the best at this stuff and would really like your help.

Being kind of vague, perhaps if you listed what you plan on doing this with, system specs, then we could let you know what your chances are.

Short of that this is the software to do it with. Get the trial and make some recordings, and then be a bit more specific.
