Using nvidia fx5600

I'm wondering if I got this incredable video card working fully. I use clone mode to support my computer monitor and a plasma hdtv. The pc monitor is on the vga out on fx5600 and the plasma in on the dvi out using a vga connector and a 50 ft cable to the plasma vga input. It all works perfect and the btv feed to the plasma is dvd quality. My only problem is I have to switch back in forth between the monitor and the plasma in order to get the video to play on either box, in other words I have functional btv control on each, but video only on the one selected, plus I have sound on both. I would like video to play on both at the same time "clone"

I have been through the nvidia manual, but still cant figure it out. Also wonder if I could get the svideo out on the fx5600 to feed a tv, all at the same time. Love btv and the incredable functionalty it provides..........but I still want more.

I also have video via an NVidea chipset .. nothing as fancy as your, but the setup is similar. I've always run the two videos at the same time. One VGA going to my local computer monitor and the TV out (not the same as yours of course) to the feed that is distributed to all the TVs in the house. If I remember correctly there was an issue with the two video profiles. I had to run the local video to the PC at a max of 800x600. (normally all the other computers are running 1280x1024.

If I tried to clone the video at anything higher than 800x600 then the TV out (although separately adjustable) could not be adjusted enough to fill the TV properly. I'm a little hazy on the details cuz it's been almost a year since I set up my own BTV PVR.

You "should" be able to run both at the same time. I do. But (and again, I'm not sure) there was something about the screen sizes on both that was weird.

It could be that in order to run both, one or both has to be at 800x600. Just for kicks, try setting your local VGA output to the monitor at 800x600 and then try set the thing to run both outputs. You got me curious and I went into my normal pc's video settings .. and I can't find any way to enable both. It's switchable only from one to the other. Later today, I'll shut down the PVR system and take a look at how IT's set up. I'll get back to you then. Maybe by then some NVidia guru will pop in here. Good luck. Just keep in mind .. you CAN do it. I am. (just forgot how) :o

Well I took a minute to examine my system before I went to work. Hope this helps. It's how to run both at the same time. (forget about the screen size thing)

Right click on a blank spot on the desktop
Click Properties
Click Settings
Click Advanced
Click on the tab "Geforce MX Integrated GPU" (yours may say something else but you want the "Geforce" tab.

In that window on the left side will be a panel ... select NView Display mode.

All the settings you need are there. I have set for "Dual View" and am using both at the same time .. Only in my case one display is the VGA monitor and the other is the TV-out. This video set up doesn't have dual VGA .. only VGA and an S-video out. But I think the general operation of all the NVidia video sets is similar and you should be able to turn on both there.

I tryed changing resolution to 800/600 and it leaves a black band on the left side on the monitor. I had previously tryed duelview with no luck, it seem to lock up on the plasma. I"m sure there is a way to make this work but its probably too simple to find

Well that about drains all of "my" expertise, if you can call it that. Sorry you are having the problem. It would be really nice to enjoy that plasma screen I'm sure. Here, I'm outputting to a modulator that is broadcasting on channel 88. In the home theater, I have a tuner that tunes channel 88 and outputs that to my projector. So I watch it on an 84 inch screen. Really sweet. Keep at it, the results will be worth it.

I have the FX5500 and here's how I got mine working:

Right click on desktop, select 'Properties' then 'Settings', then 'Advanced'. Then select the Tab that shows your video card (mine sais Nvidia FX 5500). Then on the left pane, first select 'Nview Display Mode'. ( On mine, this could also be gotten to by right clicking on the desktop and simply selecting 'NV display', or it might say 'NV Analog Display', just whatever is under the 'undo delete' button in the right click menu of the desktop.) Then make the Nview mode say 'Dual View', or 'Clone' (whichever you feel works better for your setup). Then select the display pair to say whichever PAIR of devices you want to run together (any 2 devices, not all 3 simultaneously). Then just make a mental note that at the bottom of that page there is a checkbox the sais 'make this monitor my primary display'. Just remember where that is because your may need to change that (by highlighting the monitor of choice and checking the box).

Now, so far I just repeated what somebody else had basically said earlier. But now here's what else you still gotta do:
Back on the left pane, select 'Full Screen Video' and on the right make sure 'Auto-select' is selected, the other selection window sais 'video mirror'.

Now on the left pane again click on 'Desktop managment' (this step is optional). Now tree'd off the Desktop Managment entry on the left pane should be an option for 'Hot Keys'. Here you can set keyboard bottons to quick-toggle your display mode. So on mine I went to 'Display Mode' and then selected 'Switch to the next Display Device' and programmed it as Alt + X keys on my keyboard so I can quickly change modes. I also set 'Toggle clone mode' as Alt + Z on mine, and I set 'Toggle to TV output' to Alt+ C. You can do this last step if you want

I currently have my vid card's Analog VGA plug hook to the regular monitor of course, and the card's DVI plug is adapted to analog VGA and plugs into my 120" Sony 1272 CRT projector. My regularcomputer monitor runs at 1024 x 768 res, while my CRT projector runs at 1280 x 768 res. And I also have TVs wired up to the S-video adapter of the vid card but that mode wont run unless you shut off one of the other outputs so whenever the projector is not in use then I have the TV output activated.

Hopefully, I didn't confuse you with the long instructions, but I just thought it would be better to try and give a thorough explaination. Hope it helps
