On the extras download page is a beta called upnp server, not much is said about it I think many people are confused. But if you read the readme it suggest using the server with the intel controller from the intel upnp page. This server sound like it will make btv complient with the intel reference standard. meaning any upnp complient device in theory would be able to see it.

I started playing with it with my govideo d2730, it sees the server but I haven't been able to display the video yet. I think I'm close, the bad storms we had kept me from using my pc (I'm parnoid about lighting) but if I understand the intel documentation it should work.

If you want to experiment with this, there is a lot of info on the intel digital home page, but be warned its not really a standard yet and its quite complicated.

have fun.

I couldn't help but wonder if this was the mechanism they were going to use to send video to the 'client' in 3.5

But I took a look at it too since someone else mentioned it was there - (saw it before just never piqued my interest)

Should be interesting to see how it works with the remote embedded devices.

Don't know about 3.5, but Intel says you can have the render on one pc and the server on the other and send video to the render.
The tutorial video on the intel site is intriguing. If it wasn't for the stupid storms in michigan last night I would have the test results today.

I'm going to try using the server, with a govideo d2730 networked dvd player as the render. If I read eveything correctly it may work.

When I first tried it , it showed the list of programs on the btv drive, I could select them but nothing played. The status on the player showed "On line". I just assumed it woudn't work with the player. But if I understand the intel tutorial , the render (in this case the dvd player) was waiting for the server to send the video.

When I get some results I will post them. I'm also looking at the d-link dsm320 which is also supposed to be fully upnp complient.

to sumerize.

You need a render (media player or some upnp device)
snapstream upnp server or intel av sever or intel av wizard
intel controller

I'm confused. Why would you need to use the upnp server software to begin with? Especially with the GoVideo DVD player you have, you should just be able to stream the video off the BTV PC as it is. I watched the tutorial on the Intel web site and the technology seems a little redundant where streaming video is concerned. We can already do this without Intel's added overhead. Even ZoomPlayer Pro can play locked (as its recorded) media from a shared drive on the network. I can see SnapStream useing this techology for streaming *LIVE* mpeg2 TV but other than that, I guess I'm missing the point here.

The d5 digital server is ok but its not great, also the upnp is new technology, I kind of like being on the leading edge of things. Does mediamvp support upnp I didn't think it did.

CWG,

Did you ever make more progress on this. I just bought a d2730, and was going to set it up when I saw this thead.

I to question the benifit of this configuration beyond playing the files out of a directory (local or network) with the native Govideo server. The native Govideo server seems to do everything and more (especially on the music/picture side) when compared to the services that the BTV UpnP server provides. I also noticed (in other forums) that some are using Gatway's server instead of the Govideo server. Which did you end up using ?

The govideo is the only one I can tweak to see a network drive, the gateway seems to be more upnp complient.

I use both on two different machines. I also just recently purchased a dlink media player and so far I am pretty impressed with it. To summarize what I use.

Tried btw beta server, but nothing can actually see the video on it

Govideo server better at high quality mpegs

Gateway more complient

Intel server - not ready for prime time.

Working on developing my own that can actually see the files on my 2 replaytv boxes.
