Files that are created (recorded) in mpeg-2 mode play just fine on my desktop (the recording/main computer). However, when I try to view these files (copied/pasted) on my laptop, all I get is sound. No video. It's just a black screen. I've tried recording in fair, good, etc. If I record in windows media format, it works great on both computers. If I record mpeg-2 in DVD quality, I do see the picture on the laptop, but there are very thick black bars on the top of the screen. There are other weird problems at other various settings- squished picture, file will stutter and won't continue playing, etc. All when playing on the laptop. I have been using my ATI AIW software (guideplus) to schedule and record shows without any problem and I can view in mpeg format on both computers.
ALSO- not sure how to tshoot this one... but, if I stream live tv on my laptop, and then try to quit (sometimes it locks up, sometimes it doesn't)... I can't get my desktop's beyondtv software to 'release' the stream. It shows that it's continuing to stream... then, my scheduled recordings don't take place. I have to actually end task on the software and sometimes reboot my computer. Lastly, a scheduled recording this morning at 5am simply didn't take place. Not sure why.

Black screen on laptop: This probably means you don't have an MPEG decoder on your laptop. Install winDVD, or equivalent to install the proper decoder.

I did that... and it didn't work. Strangely, though, I did load another decoder... from elecard... and when I did that, it fixed the problem... BUT, my DVD playback stopped working. I got a weird error (digital copyright problem) in all of my media players. So, I uninstalled that, and the DVD playback worked again... but now, the original black screen problem doesn't work. Any ideas?
