I'm planning on building a pvr. and wondering what would be the best way to stream mpeg2 to the pocketpc. I can do it right now but the method I use is a little unusual. I stream the files from my mac and my two replaytv units to my modded xbox. I take the output from that and feed it into the analog in on an ati 8500dv card. I Than use the beyondtv 3 server to send that "realtime" to the pocketpc in wmv format.
I'm thinking that for the pvr I'm building I would use two happauge prv250 (idac 16) and a aiw card. One of the pvr250 would handle timeshifting and the other would be for recording. I'm on the open beta list for beyound tv 3.5 but haven't heard anything yet . (very disappointing) its supposed to handle multiple tuners if that is the case it will work fine otherwise I will have to go with sage.tv and just use the server portion of beyoundtv 3 or some other server.
As it stands now I would take the tv-out and s-vid in on the ati card in conjunction with a software player app thats supports tv-out, and a custom program of my own design to process the various streaming formats, together these would handle the role the xbox is performing . I need to put more thought into this one.
Perhaps the pvr350 with tv-out would be better, but I heard there are overheating issues and they don't get along with pvr250's very well.
**edit** Did some research and it sounds what I want would be the sigma design xcard, the pvr350 has tooo many heating problems. so the config would be , take the replaytv, quicktime , whatever stream into the xcard, use some player that supports the tv-out on this card, feed the tv-out into the aiw card.
Volia... would work just like the xbox solution I'm using now.
If anyone has any thoughts on doing this type of stuff I would be interested in comments. Also does anyone know when the open beta is going to start I'd rather not go with Sage.tv if btw is better but right now they support multiple tuners and btw doesn't. I will soon be putting up a website dedicated to this project at www.sol-3.org.
