If anyones still wondering, I've found you can use XviD4PSP to "strip" the mkv file to a avi file.
Just set format to avi set Video and Audio encoding to COPY and it makes an avi in about 3 mins
that is playable with all features in BeyondTV except you cannot resume where you stopped for some reason.
