Re: Pissy about SnapStream

Actually I compared the windows versions of Sage and BTV to each other, and the linux version of Sage to the BTV linux placeshifter mod with vlc (using placeshifter to launch vlc rather than silverlight, which isn't up yet in linux, moonlight 2). So I did my best to compare apples to apples.

I can understand the lack of interest in porting to linux, most people using linux are running mythtv, so why pay for Sage or BTV?

Well, my argument is you get a superior product, and you get reliable guide data. Since then I've been rebutted with a lot of "free as in beer" options for guide data, which I have not had a chance to explore yet. I've farmed some of this off to two friends, one using mythtv, one using Media Portal exclusively. When I get some time I might play with these and come up with another article for ya.

Of course both Media Portal and mythtv are very tedious to setup (compared to btv), but if someone ever made a US specific installer that simplified the process...
