Re: picture being "split" into multiple screens

So, this problem sounds a lot like mine. About 3/4 of the right-most portion of the screen has a semi-transparent static image "stuck" from the first frame of playback (that is occasionally replaced by another static frame), while you can still make out the smooth motion of the actual video behind it and is completely in sync with the 1/4 left-most portion of the screen, which appears normal. Audio is also fine.

I have a dual-core, Vista x64 laptop with an nVidia 9600GS video card. I updated my video drivers and now all my non-H2.64 channels are screwed up. Stations that use my HD-PVR work fine, and everything was working fine with the 185 drivers before I upgraded to 186. I uninstalled all my nVidia drivers six ways to Sunday - safe mode, you name it, but I can't seem to get it working again the way it was with the 185 drivers.

Now, the only way I can get it to working acceptably again is to switch from overlay to transparent dialogs, which eliminates the problem but causes some acceptable degradation (as is normally the case with transparent) with SD channels but more pronounced problems with H.264 playback. Or, the problem also goes away if I leave it at overlay and roll back to nVidia 179 drivers. The problem with the 179's is that they don't support CUDA, which is what I really need in order to playback H.264 with my CoreAVC H.264 codec. Argh.

This definitely used to work with my CUDA supported 185 drivers, and I know I can do a Windows re-install to get it working again. But, I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. Any ideas, suggestions? Is there a trick way to uninstalling drivers in safe mode that I don't know about? Do I need to purge every "nVidia" key from the registry while I'm at it?
