Re: Happy with your new HD-PVR?

One HD PVR, all recording done with btv, still choppy playback (4.8.2 and also played with betas) I've also posted this about commercial removal:

"I've been playing with H.264 ts cutter - http://www.h264tscutter.de/show_artikel.php?id=5

THis lets me edit down the HD PVR files, its a lot clunkier than videoredo, the skip frames are 3 seconds (100 frames) at the most, otherwise you need the slider, and it can lock if you click too many times at once. You can enter time in manually in seconds, which if you know the times of commercial breaks will help a lot. Also, you have to change the extension from tp to ts to edit (then set start to iframes, etc, you'll get a warning when you open) and when your done, you change the new file back to tp otherwise navigation in btv doesn't work and it might lock. Yes, big pain in the butt, BUT, I was able to yank all commercials out of my last Galactica recording!!!

Note if you enter values in the timeline, say 72 for 1 min 12 seconds, use one of the next/prev buttons (I use the 5 frame button) so it can sync itself correctly, some value like 72.1435. Otherwise when you try and cut your project you get an exception."

I use serial control with Directv H21 box, set to Directv Satellite box 2, others have worked but with errors.

I also use the Hauppauge 1.0 driver, not the 1.0b, had issues with that. The new driver that supports 5.1 audio should be coming soon, (maybe in a week according to this http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=14383434

I use TME to set recording quality, max out bitrate and have also tried variable. Based on file size it seems btv obeys this. I had spdif working in 4.8.2 betas but not in the release, 4.9 will address this.

There's other stuff happening in the prebetas, anyone with an HD PVR should sign up now, I'll leave those discussions there.
