1 & 2 - That is all dependent on the power of your computer, namely CPU. With my specs in my tag, I showsqueeze hour shows in 15 minutes time.

3 - Smartchaptering is a quicker process than showsqueezing since it's just scanning for the breaks in the show rather than reencoding.

4 - Transport Stream files

5 - You mean playback on a non-HD capable display? Sure it will play.

6 - I believe that the Nvidia line of video card become HD compliant at the 7300 line and above. I know some have had no issues with using some of the higher end 6000 lines either. However the 8000 series includes a newer chipset that offloads HD playback to the graphic card rather than taxing the CPU. I'm still a bit hazy as to what you really mean by HD to SD. Is your tv/monitor not capable of resolutions over 480?

You should always review your BTV Log if you have issues.
