I learned a cool feature similar to what you're having a problem with, I don't know how to activate it in BTV, but I'm sure you can find it in HELP if you need to. On my Firefly choose the OPTIONS button and arrow up to where it can change to AUTO, LETTERBOX, PILLERBOX etc. Play with your settings there to fit the screen on your TV.
