Jumbo Frame Usage
I just recently got a Infrant Tech NAS and people over at there website always seemed to talk about Jumbo Frames, so I decided to do some research. Basically network Data Packets or MTU is typically set at 1500 and Jumbo Frames is typically at 9000, so the benefit is you can send roughly 6 times more data in a single Frame or Packet without the extra overhead. I noticed my BTV Server had this capability and so did my NAS, but not all Switches or Routers do. I had to buy a new Switch (D-Link 10/100/1000 DGS-2208) for $70 but the results are amazing. It originally took me 12 mins to copy a HD show from the Server to the NAS and now with this feature it takes the same file less than 7 mins.
With the huge amounts of data we are using nowadays I thought this may be of use to some people, I know it was new to me about 2 weeks ago.
Thanks
Mike
