I was a Tivo person, I had 6 of them. I decided to go the BTV route instead of sticking with Tivo. There is several differences between building your own and Tivo. For one, with BTV there are no subscription fees. You can change out hardware as you see fit. You can have as many tuners as your motherboard can handle. You can add drives alot easier....the list goes on.
