Thanks for all the info. You are right about the prices of the new ones, but I expect they will come down just like the rest of them have through the years. That abbreviation you used, I am not too good on them, I think I know what you mean, but not sure. BTV/BYOPVR.? I think you are saying you are going to build your own. If this is what you are saying, I have thought of the doing the same thing. I have built several computers, and have had good results, so why not a Tivo. Only thing is all the different programs you would have to get.

Also try www.tivocommunity.com for their forums concerning modded TiVo's , although you'll find even if you have slight reservations about the TiVo experience, you'll be crucified by the regulars there.

I was a TiVo S2 person myself, but decided to go the BTV/BYOPVR route in the past few weeks due to the price of the Series 3, HDTV... and just to give myself a fun project to do.
